Wether he’s all in on his bet.. there’s no doubt that crypto at least will just be a common alternative pay for those crypto geeks and potentially the newer generations as they grow more accustomed to these new forms of payments.

Don't be a moron. Just because someone knew about something earlier, doesn't mean they had participated in it right then and there. I was CS major back in 2010 and our Cryptography teacher was super enthusiastic about it and so were a few of us students. But none of us students actively perticipated in it, even though we read and discussed the original white paper at length during that period.

You know, no Crypto enthusiast was ever able to explain to me the value of Bitcoin itself. Like, a country's currency is tied to a country's economy, stocks are tied to the company and it's worth, but what's the value of Bitcoing and such, outside of hype? When people tell how Bitcoin is the future, they usually talk in very vague notions, or either end up telling how great it is as an anonymous payment system or just criticize (usually in a smug and rude manner) how bad regular currencies are, but nothing about it being good as a currency. I hear more about what bitcoin isn't than what it is.

A good starting point would be to read into the types of consensus algorithms for blockchains. The nodes on the network account for a good portion of the intrinsic value that cryptoassets have

Bitcoin’s value is tied to its users and the businesses built on it. Like you said currency has value because it’s tired to a country’s economy! Think of Bitcoin like that but instead of a country’s economy it’s tied to the world’s economy. Bitcoin will eliminate the primitive slow process of exchanging money and it will eliminate the need for converting a currency; the cherry on top is the fact that it’s decentralized and the people will be in control of the money not the banks who are making 10% return on your money, while you get none of it.
@demilung2 жыл бұрын
@@Platicus Here you go about "the banks" again. Similar financial institutions are making a fortune off commissions on Bitcoin transactions and exchanges. They just aren't giving loans in it because the rate is so jumpy. But the "world's economy" - how do you imagine that? Take the GDP of all countries and divide it by the number of countries? If my country has a bunch of people who have bitcoins, but overall national economy is bad, should that affect the value of Bitcoin overall? Should next Eastern European crisis affect the value of this new currency in LATAM? And building our business around bitcoin sure is profitable but building it on Bitcoin? How can you, as a company, have your main fund jump up and down on value for 25% and it be considered normal? It can't become a currency of the world without stopping being so volatile, but it cant stop being volatile because the point is that nobody can regulate it.

I was wondering the whole time, whether the panelists know Hedera Hashgraph. Because if they did, they would already know that there is a working DLT solution outthere superior to blockchains, which addresses all of their concerns about base layer throughput, security and low energy usage - all at the same time. Plus it has a 100% certain finality in 5s and a technical and legal no-fork guarantee. Probably Hedera should use a dog meme to be caught by Elon's attention. :-)

Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey just excactly described $Nano coin. Nano isn't known for the moment but it's the only instant, feeless, store of value and green crypto on the market.
@ds53982 жыл бұрын
11 accounts own a third of the Nano coin - massively centralized. Along with that, no incentive to run validator nodes as you don't get paid. Nice idea but destined to fail.

Jack is a technologist, not an economist. There's a reason why the USD was taken off the gold standard and that was after the great depression. When you peg money to a scarce commodity like BTC, all people will do is hoard, which will significantly slow down the economy and lead to another great depression. This time, maybe on a global scale. Just my 2 cents.
@MattyJones2 жыл бұрын
Check out The Price of Tomorrow by Jeff Booth on a deflationary economy. Technology makes everything cheaper and almost free, just like this KZbin that you are on. It is okay for people to save (hoard) their efforts. Perhaps we'll start building things that last again instead of this throw away economy we have today. Everyone can benefit from an economy like that.
@randoroo25402 жыл бұрын
That's one story of why we went off a gold standard. Another is: gold had to be custodied at banks and so people exchanged notes that were supposedly redeemable for gold. Banks and governments eventually issued more debt/notes then there was backing it and the peg to gold was lost. I.E. - due to the trust required in institutions in the gold based system, those institutions eventually betrayed that trust and defaulted

What so wrong with saving (hoarding as you call it) and not consuming? No one can save everything forever, you do have to eat, live etc. I think you're listening to too many "economists"
