My father purchased the CD of this album and played it nonstop in his truck every time he would take us on trips and vacations when I was a kid, so it's tied a lot to my childhood and memories of spending time with him. He would blast this on his speakers during weekends, the whole house was filled with nothing but JJ music for hours! I never figured out what ever happened to that CD, but after going on a JJ binge I'm tempted to buy it for him again but this time as a Father's Day gift. Just to relive those childhood memories one last time. Also, I really need to watch that Curious George movie again, I've forgotten it entirely! Time flies since 2006!

I really relate to this song, or at least the way I interpret it, sometimes I wish I would just be alone and able to breakdown and cry, cry in a way that feels good, and get rid of all the sad emotions in me, but I can't, it feels like I haven't cried right in so long that I can't even get it all out, it just leaves me feeling like a used toothpaste container, you know it's all crumbled up and twisted and you know there is still toothpaste inside, but its impossible to get out. I'm glad this song exists,

I started a tomato garden, paid for the guy behind me at the toll booth, gave a waitress my phone number, decided not to quit my piano lessons, took a brisk 3 mile jog, cleaned underneath my fridge, let the guy sitting behind me at the movies keep explaining the plot line to his buddy, decided to stop grabbing so many napkins, came to a full complete stop at a stop sign, and called mom and told her I love her.

The train is a metaphor for time. He needs the train to break down (time to stop) so he can just enjoy the present moment he is in. The character in the song has the perfect life, but is just too busy too stop, take a deep breath, and enjoy the life he's experiencing at that moment. Who knows how long it will last.

"Breakdown" I hope this old train breaks down Then I could take a walk around See what there is to see Time is just a melody With all the people in the street walking as fast as their feet can take 'em I just roll through town And though my window's got a view, well, the frame I'm looking through Seems to have no concern for now, so for now I I need this old train to break down Oh, please, just let me please break down Well, this engine screams out loud Centipede gonna crawl westbound So I don't even make a sound 'Cause it's gonna sting me when I leave this town And all the people in the street that I'll never get to meet If these tracks don't bend somehow And I got no time that I got to get To where I don't need to be, so I I need this old train to break down Oh, please, just let me please break down I need this old train to break down Oh, please, just let me please break down I wanna break on down But I can't stop now Let me break on down But you can't stop nothing if you got no control Of the thoughts in your mind that you kept and you know You don't know nothing, but you don't need to know The wisdom's in the trees, not the glass windows You can't stop wishing if you don't let go The things that you find and you lose and you know You keep on rolling, put the moment on hold The frame's too bright, so put the blinds down low, and I need this old train to break down Oh, please, just let me please break down I need this old train to break down Oh, please, just let me please break down I wanna break on down But I can't stop now

Jack Johnson's tunes are fun, simple, catchy. His lyrics seem more to me like a mechanism for his voice to keep rhythm and less for sharing a thought, emotion, or experience. For lack of a better word: trifling. I can't see myself taking his songs to my death bed the way I do other folk music.
