In September 1957 Viking Press, published On the Road - a novel by a little-known author Jack Kerouac. It was immediately acclaimed as a classic and made Kerouac famous overnight, leading to him being adopted as an icon of 1960s counterculture, but Kerouac did not enjoy his fame and sought solace in alcohol.

He reminds me of myself, minus the novel, the fame, and the genius....yep, pretty close. 😅

Check out Robert Frank a photographer who roamed America in the 1950’s with a M3 Leica. Stunning B&W captures were put into a book called The Americans. Most definitely a recording of time here in the our country that we all should view.

The person who denounced Kerouac’s style as “typing, not writing” was actually Truman Capote most infamous for his true crime novel “In Cold Blood”

The only other author who matched Kerouac's stream of consciousness writing style was another Jack. Jack Torrance, caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, spent an entire Winter typing up his masterwork All Work and No Play Made Jack a Dull Boy
