I'm starting at Warwick this year and I just got JM, it was my first choice so I'm really excited, I'm just wondering how the kitchen was in terms of space and cleanliness? And also if the halls were excessively loud? 😂 sorry if someone has already asked this 😊
@BethanyChan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sofia! The kitchens are pretty clean but it depends on who you will be sharing the kitchen with. I was lucky to be sharing it with people who like to keep the kitchen in a clean state, but if keeping the kitchen clean ever becomes a problem, you can always create a rotating schedule for cleaning surfaces or taking out the bins. You will also get a cleaner that cleans the kitchen two times a week and your bathroom once a week :) Again with the noise it depends on who you live next to, but I feel unless a party is going on in the kitchen the halls are pretty quite. There is also a rule of no noise from around midnight to seven in the morning (you'll have to check the handbook once you move in because I may have remembered the times wrong 😅) But during exam season, the no noise policy is 24/7 :) Hope this helps :)

Such a fast reply!! :) Thank you so much, this helps a lot! Also, if you don't mind me asking how much did you spend on food each week? Trying to budget :') Thank you for your help :)
@BethanyChan7 жыл бұрын
haha yup :) I put £20 as the limit, but I managed to shop under £10 for a few weeks (but I am vegetarian and veggies/ fruit/ carbs are pretty cheap, so yeah :D) But my flatmates (who aren't vegetarian) used around £15-20. But your first shop will be a bit more pricey because you're getting all the herbs, spices, sauces, pasta, rice, etc, so keep that in mind :) Glad I could help :D
@itsreallysofia7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I'm a veggie too so that helps a lot :) and I'm sorry to bother you again, but what did you do in regards to tickets for freshers events? and were tickets available at the time or did events sell out? Thank you again :)
@BethanyChan7 жыл бұрын
yay, if i remember correctly I only went to one fresher event and it was the Sunday party. I am not sure if you can get tickets for the Saturday and Sunday parties beforehand but on the day they will sell tshirts as the tickets so you just have to wear the tshirt for that day and you can go into the party :) If you want to go to more of the freshers events I suggest buying in advance and if you end up not wanting to go you can give them to others that may be wanting to go through the freshers facebook page :)

Hai.. do we have to apply seperately for the accomodation? Also i would like to know whether the university provides different flats for accomodation. If so which one is the best and cheapest?
@BethanyChan5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes it is a separate application where you submit your top five choices in the order of your preference. Yeah, there are a bunch of difference accommodations at Warwick both en suite and not. They have changed a bit since my first year, but if you are looking at en suite and central campus Jack Martin or Arthur Vick are really good. Roots is good for socialising and is one of the cheaper ones though it isn't en suite. I think the new Cryfield accommodations are to be good as they are new this academic year. I think Claycroft is also a good accommodation as you share a bathroom with just one other person and the room is a decent size. I'd suggest going onto their accommodation website and just scroll through all of them to have a look what each accommodation has etc. as everyone wants different things. :) Hope this helped and feel free to ask anymore questions if you have any!

Hi I will be starting at Warwick in October! I just wanted to know what life is like there? (in terms of academia, social life, the people, diversity)
@BethanyChan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Toni! Congrats on getting into Warwick!! From experience and from the lecturers there, I can safely say that the style of teaching and responsibility of the student is very different from high school. You have to be very disciplined and manage your time well, but with that being said, I had to learn the hard way, so making a few mistakes is normal :) In terms of social life and the people, I would recommend you to be brave and go up to talk to people and make friends in the first week. I know how scary this is because everyone is a stranger at that point, but the earlier you make friends or get closer to some people, the more people you will have to turn to for problems or questions that you both may not know the answer to and can solve together. Looking around campus there definitely is diversity at Warwick, but whether or not you see certain people will depend on the clubs and societies they join. Hence, I would recommend you join a society or club of your interest and try to go to the socials and stuff to also meet more people. :) Hope this helped :D Feel free to ask more questions if I didn't exactly answer your questions :)

Bethany Chan Thank you! I put Sherbourne at the top of my accommodation list when I filled out the form. Also I don't drink and I'm not really into clubbing/dancing, is there a big drinking/clubbing culture in Warwick. Do you know if we are allowed to have our own mini fridge in our rooms?
@BethanyChan7 жыл бұрын
Oh nice! Hope you get your first choice! I feel they are very accepting of people who don't drink or are not into clubbing. I don't drink, and so in pre-drinks I would have a cup of water/ lemonade/ squash while others had alcohol. From what I remember, you can only have a mini fridge in your room if there is a medical reason, so if it's for keeping your food or drinks safe from flatmates, mini fridges aren't allowed in rooms. :) Hope this helped!

Bethany Chan thank you! I also wanted to know what the work load is like at Warwick. I am studying politics, international studies and Hispanic studies. How long (in terms of word count) are essays /coursework pieces? How many lectures and seminars do you have each week (I know it varies across the courses)?
@constancebobotsi22757 жыл бұрын
I study Politics and International Studies so I can give you some information on this bit of your course :) You'll have two core modules with one 50min long lecture and one 50min long seminar for each module. Regarding essays,you get one per term for each module and for us they went up to 2500 words, but don't worry too much because they don't count for your module marks. Congrats for getting into Warwick and good luck!

Hi! In my corridor there were 5/12 of us that were international students, so I think it’s pretty nicely spread out. Also with keeping you stuff etc over the easter break, you have the little cupboard at the top and they open up a cupboard per block to put in suitcases etc. for the holiday so you would only need to take one suitcase away. Also for that international students get priority. Or alternatively you could pay to stay for the holiday, I’m not to sure about the prices but I do remember seeing signs that said you could pay to stay in the accommodation over easter 😊 hope this helped!! And congrats on getting into Warwick!!

Do you mind tell me how did you learn such good English and make friends with local people here? I found it quite hard to social with local people here and they usually walk around in gang. Do you mind share a little about your experience with us? Many many thanks. Xoxo
@BethanyChan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tina! Sorry for the late reply, but welcome to Warwick! I went to an international school back in HK and I speak english at home, so English is like my first language. In terms of making friends, I'd suggest joining a society or sports club as that is where most of my friends are from. That way you already have something in common (the club/ society) and everything else falls into place. Another thing is to just start a conversation about anything with anyone. Just talking to someone could boost your confidence and social skills and even if you don't talk anymore after that conversation, when you see them around campus, you have a familiar face to occasionally say hi to or give a smile. Hope this helped xx
