He's certainly more Reacher than Tom Cruise. But, he's actually SMALLER than his depiction in the books. I did like the Tom Cruise movies, but he's not Reacher.

I think what I love about his fighting style is that it is in fact not really "with style". Or rather, not with class. He is not deflecting or protecting himself like usual "heroes" fight. If he is unleashed, it is a very cold, brutal and direct. He is not disarming your knife, he will literally 'disarm' you

I love Reacher, but the acting from the prisoner in this scene is also impeccable. It's harder than you think acting that evil, especially if you're an unknown actor for a small role. People are always gonna associate you with that role.

I guess I agree with your first point, that it may be difficult to act to be truly evil. But what does being an unknown actor in a small role have to do with the difficulty? And why does it matter or not if people always associate you with that role. You've stated a bunch of disparate points and I don't understand how they all fit together.

Just noticed at 0:30 the camera focuses on his feet hanging off the bed. This is a nice call back to when he told Finlay how tall people never have enough room when discussing the crime scene. Just little details like that really make a show for me.

As an ex-prison officer I can tell you that sentenced inmate jails are much safer and less violent than remand centres..these guys know they are saying their for life and its kinda home for them..where as in remand centre people are fresh off the street, coming of drugs and every knew kid wanna prove himself..so I always smirk at this scene.

@yourdaddy6030 ..mate, disrespect rule applies everywhere regardless of your status.. and yes exceptions are everywhere.. I didn't say that sentenced prisons are safe, but they are generally less violent than remand centres. Ask anyone who has worked in prisons, and you will get the same answer.

Tom was great for the charisma and sarcasm that Reacher has in the books but he's obviously nowhere near the 6'5 250lbs stature. This dude did a really good job combining the physicality and "I'll f*ck your day up" attitude is such a crucial part of the character

Come to think about it, Having martial arts training & tactics is very useful serving Prison Time. You have a much better chance of surviving & defending yourself against other dangerous Inmates. Being solitary, In which just being yourself & Not joining gangs in prison is also another way to survive your prison sentence.

@@yannickwillems8523 Which is why Reacher uses tactics to give himself every edge he can: Surprise and distraction. Using his environment as weapons. Going for crippling blows. Moving around and shoving people away to keep them from encircling him. Reacher fights like a trained soldier, efficient and brutal, putting his opponents down as hard and fast as he can.

One meaning of "hero's" is that it's short for "hero is", so I thought, "Action hero is what?" I was trying to be clever and maybe funny? But it seems it is lost on some people.

Reacher's physicality is an important part of his character (if you ever read any of the books). Lee Child was disappointed when Tom Cruise was picked for the role.
