What a band! It's criminal they ended up as a footnote to Lindisfarne (who are incredible as well!)... To me JTL were our Fairport Convention in the north east... I've been listening to their Jackpot album in the car on loop recently which I only just discovered is actually on Spotify, just filed under the wrong "Jack The Lad"! I love the story of when they dressed as miners with Davy lamps for a BBC show in London and when asked by the producers what they were wearing Billy said "wey it's just wa dorty workin' clays man" as if they'd just ambled in off backshift down the pit!

Great band. Lucky enough to see them live twice in the 70s.

Glad I saw them, fabulous live band. Watching them playing the “Morris Miners Dance” at The Free Trade Hall in Manchester, literally cutting chunks out of the stage with spades 😮

Thank you SO much for posting this! Some years ago I was looking on YT for any performances by Jack the Lad and there was just about nothing. I found the band by accident. I was rifling through the bins at Rhino Records (in L.A.) and came upon their first album. I'd never heard of them before. Although I'd become familiar with some British electric folk bands, I was only slightly aware of Lindisfarne, much less the connection to Jack the Lad. The only info I had was the album cover, the front of which just showed all their instruments. But, based on the instruments, I decided to take a chance and buy it. When I got it home and played it, I LOVED it! I bought Rough Diamonds, too. Much later, I bought the CDs of both and they've been in my iTunes library ever since.
