Everyone's fighting about wether or not the performance was good, when it was objectively fucked. The vocalists had no idea when to sing, the one with the tambourine started and stopped randomly, jack's vocals were kinda strange (though that might be just me), the mix overall was horrible (they drown each other out in a very unpleasant way), sometimes a few instruments went out of sync or didn't stop at their cue, it was overall a mess. I love the song but damn, admit it when something is wrong. If you genuinely like everything about this, then you are much more open-minded than I will ever be.

One thing I love about seeing Jack White perform is that he hates live music being rehearsed. What's the point of seeing it live, if you can hear the exact same thing on the record? He always tends to treat his live performances as a jam session. Sometimes he'll stop and do a random solo or start playing a different song mid performance which is why he surrounds himself with professional musicians who can follow that. It's very much like Jazz, it's never rehearsed and it's all spastic, seeing it live is amazing but it's not for everyone.
@LouiseCalandrino6 жыл бұрын
The crapiest and weirdest part that fucked up the performance was all about that tambourine played against the tempo...

Totally agree. The backup singers sounded great, but they threw Carla way off at 1:25. She recovered like a pro but then the tambourine derailed the performance from there.

Yeeees, I agree with you, my friend. I love this performance. We can FELL the musicians. I rather this than the type of 'live' performances we find, full of playbacks and lip sync.
@judyp38012 жыл бұрын
As musician myself and veteran in the industry I hear what you're saying. However, for a show such as SNL or any major TV appearance where the intention is to promote yourself, the engineers and sound board should be beyond up to par. And the background vocals didn't help. Good musicianship is you just keep going, and he did. Sure art is dynamic, but this wasn't and avant garde preformance. The song was rehearsed, the engineering, sound boards, lights, etc were set - and Mr. White should still get the quality and attention he deserves. No a song will never sound like the recorded one but it was a hot mess, they weren't in synch, the vibe was all over the place - basically - shame on SNL.
