It is true that the black added to vinyl, which is naturally clear, does help with reducing wear and gives it it's durable quality, on any well setup turntable wear is negligible regardless of color. Clear colors technically should sound the best, with a pure clear being the ultimate.

So.....the recycling of coloured chips to make speckled and mixed colour records is cheaper, yet we the consumer pay vast amounts more for a "limited edition"! Kate Bush Hounds of Love is one that springs to mind.

Those colored variants are normally not recycled like he said, because they are all one color usually, instead of random

It's funny how plastics companies say "it's cheaper to use recycled materials" when it's pre-consumer. When it's part of the process to grind scrap, it's one thing. But when it piles up and you have to pay someone to grind the scrap, then the process becomes more expensive. Ideally, if you're reusing in-house production, then you know the limits of the compound you're using. When you buy recycled product, then you're taking a chance at what you're using being usable for your purposes, and that generates a lot of scrap as well. The trial and error process means less widgets produced but the cost of production remains the same, and therefore increases the price of widgets to recover the loss. Custom virgin compounded plastic is ideal, the same in house reground compound is acceptable, but foreign reground compound is iffy.

The LABEL doesn't keep the record centered, most of the time if I vinyl LP is cut off center it's from the stamper being offset. The label is there to melt into the vinyl and tell you the sides/track list etc

I just recently started collecting my favorite albums in record form. I love music its something I grew up with. My mom used to have me on one hip while making lunch or dinner and we would always listen to records she had since she was a teen. So now that I turned 20 the first thing I did was buy a record player and started my own collection like she did. And even if I cant notice the sound difference since I dont have the best ear just the nostalgia and the fact I can hold the record and watch it spin while I listen to it makes it worth it.

Record collectors are often difficult to listen to music with. They are rarely interested in what you bring into the group, they are usually only interested in themselves and in their own stack of albums for the evening. Aways there will be exceptions, of course.

Motown was by far the greatest record company in America. If you likened the American record industry to a New York skyscraper, Motown would be in the penthouse, all the other companies, RCA, Warner, Capitol. etc., would be in the basement... Stax? They'd be at one floor below the penthouse. Any overseas organisation, like EMI, should feel extremely privileged to hold the distribution and back-catalogue right to Motown for their market.

adding colors to the vinyl means it wears quicker (its not as hardwearing) and as i understand it there is said to be a slight loss in fidelity /quality in the sound

The fumes given of by hot vinyl is a endocrine disruptor which is either known as Phthalates and is known dop or dinop sorry about that but maybe this should be produced in a factory staffed by robots.

Yeah it's something called a master copy, it's made out of metal and it's two does that squeeze the soft plastic vinyl, instead of scratching it out it presses it

No, every record is made from the same stamp. Every vinyl record is actually exactly the same, most people just don’t notice. It’s a good business model.

Polystyrene is pretty crappy. Vinyl is quieter and far more durable, so I am glad they don't use that.

TheDutchOwner's Tech Channel - Part of TheDutchOwner's Technology Empire exactly ! Decca used polystyrene in the mid and late 50s, not as durable as vinyl, but new pressings sound fine, but had to be very carefully taken care of. Not to mention most of the Harmony LP pressings of the 50's which used a similar material but not as good.

i've never heard any difference between the traditional black vinyl and color vinyl. it can how ever make the record much more rare.

BryanChuckBrennan some coloured vinyls can actually sound better. for example the brand new reissue of Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet is in translucent clear blue and sounds much better than the original black vinyl which was notoriously riddled with errors.
