My ratings: Ospina - 6. Made a couple of decent saves, but his kicking wasn't very sensible and should've done better with the goal. BFG - 5. Started alright, but his pace let him down. He honestly didn't seem to do much and one of their goals was down to his missed tackle. He also didn't get the concept that he was meant to be in the centre as the tallest defender, which was moronic. Mustafi - 5. Better than Per, but still not brilliant. Didn't have much to do in his defence. Holding - 6.5. Compared to the other defenders he had a lot to do. He still needs to improve a lot, but he bagged a goal, probably should've got a clearance and made some good defensive tackles and clearances. However he missed an opportunity for a second goal and had a dreadful slip to let BATE score. Too good for a 6 rating, too much to work on for a 7. Maitland-Niles - 7. Solid. Didn't have as much to do in the second half it seemed, and he was calm and clinical on the ball. Good performance by the youngster. Elneny - 7. Just like Maitland-Niles, very solid. He found himself defending more than the Centre-Backs at times, including getting beaten aerially for them to score. A couple of off passes, otherwise pretty decent. Xhaka is still the better option over him and Ham Roll Ramsey for me though. Willock - 9. MOTM for me. Brilliant performance for a youngster here. Probably should've get one of the BATE players sent off, but the ref was awful. Made good runs, brilliant passes, was calm on the ball, and did very well defensively as well. Nelson - 9. Great skill, it's just a shame for me he was in the wrong position and was subbed off a little early. His skills were incredible, and his passing and runs were sensational. He came forward very well, and I reckon he would've scored if he wasn't playing in his proper position. Walcott - 5. 2 goals, yes, but one was a tap in he almost messed up, the other he was selfish and should've passed to Giroud, but he finished well anyway. He also hit the post once and should've scored, messed up some other half chances, and Wilshire should've been on the score sheet but Theo was too selfish to pass again. A good place for him to score, but needs to improve. Wilshire - 9. Beaten to MOTM by Willock for me, purely because this was Willock's debut and he had no experience of this atmosphere and setting. Wilshire was immense, made so many incredible runs, tackles, passes, got an assist or two, would've scored if not for Walcott, and was clearly proving himself. If he can show the same commitment in the league then Xhaka will surely have to come out, as much as I hate to say it. Giroud - 8. Decent movement off the ball actually, and as the defence were so lackluster he had to make a fair few clearances. Smashed his penalty home, was in the right place for a tap in so many times but denied by selfish Walcott. Not bad from Giroud, hopefully it's a confidence booster. The better he plays, the more Lacazette will have to show. McGuame? (never heard of him before tbh) - 7. Got in a very good position and made a couple of good runs and passes whilst he was on the pitch. Nketitah? - 6. Got a half chance but didn't really have time to prove himself.
