In memory of all of those aboard Lusitania on her fateful final voyage
This animation is a remake of my May 2024 Lusitania Real Time Sinking which premiered on the Ocean Liner Designs channel in the summer of 2024. All visuals have been totally redone as well as the base animation to stay up to date on the latest research and graphical fidelity.
This animation could not have been achieved without the incredible help from Titanic: Honor and Glory and Ocean Liner Designs as well as the incredible research from Liam Sharpe, 3D models by Felis Leopard and several others and the support of the amazing ocean liner community.
For licencing/media enquires please email me at: jackg20044@gmail.com
The intro music was performed by Ethan Uslan on the • The Blue Danube (ragti... KZbin Channel - I urge everyone to check out their music as it’s absolutely incredible!

Jack this may be your best animation yet. in addition to best animation, you absolutely GRILLED AND BARBEQUED with the sound design! I found myself genuinely so disturbed hearing those screams in the Lusitania interior shots. I also love those shots in the final plunge that put you seemingly in the perspective of a bird flying over Lusitania. So many moments caught me off-guard, like the second explosion, the graphics of the smoke, and the inclusion of the elevators stopping. I would say fantastic work but this is work indescribable with the English vocabulary. Keep this up, Mr. Gibson!🎀💝💝

I believe in the "Lusitania: Terror at Sea" movie that Captain Schweiger mentions that he only aims to fire one torpedo and give _Lusitania_ "a bloody nose" as it were. So when he sees how the ship is foundering, he is in total shock. They also said that _Lusitania_ could be outfitted to be an auxiliary cruiser or troop transport as with other Cunard ships.

The British weren't innocent in this as they were carrying weapons and ammo on board. As it is tragic for the massive loss of innocent lives and one of the greatest oceanliners in the world, I feel like in the situation of the captain of U-20 the decision to "damage" or "sink" RMS Lusitania was as justified as much as sinking an enemy ship during war time can be.

@@calebmcfarland8407 Wars are driven and decided by logistics and supply, and given the nature of events that brought Britain into WWI, combined with the unprovoked attacks by german naval forces on merchant ships, I dont think its fair to say Britain is "equally guilty." Britain had a duty to protect itself and the countries they gave oath to, particularly Belgium, which had attempted to stay out of the war until Germany forced them into it, dragging the UK with. They had to do what they had to do against a conflict they did not want, against a country that did not care. Im sure there are plenty of cases were allies are guilty for the deaths of innocent men and women to gain an advantage in the war. This wasnt one of them.

It makes it feel as though it were filmed in real life with a real camera. I also love the aerial shots, especially during the final plunge, they almost feel like they’re being filmed from a helicopter. It reminds me of the footage of Oceanos sinking. And you absolutely ate with the sound design!!!! I was so surprised when this premiered lol I was not expecting a whole new real time animation, considering your last one was only earlier this year with Mike’s documentary, but it was a very pleasant surprise! What makes the RMS Lusitania a tragic tale isn't necessarily the loss of life of innocent civilians. It's not because it was a war crime (at least today it would be). It's because in -- the end -- it all really came down to very bad luck. The ship just so happened to travel right into Schwieger's line of sight just perfectly, and he admitted had Turner not not turned towards the sea from the coast, he probably would have not been able to make the shot. In any other type of encounter, the Lusitania would probably have been able to evade any torpedo run.

Despite the protestations of Britain and the USA, RMS Lusitania was actually carrying arms and war supplies in its cargo area, as Germany correctly guessed. The Allied commanders that used the passengers/civilians as human shields should be the ones condemned for this tragedy, not Captain Schweiger who fired on a legitimate wartime target.

Just a note, at 13 mins the text says she was "even keel", but I think you meant "upright" If the ship has no list, it is upright. If it has no trim it is even keel.

Hey, you’re right ! I’ve just learned that right now thanks to you, I always assumed that an even keel was having the ship upright :0

😢 The inner circle of the German admiralty said later, that the Kaiser themselves was not amused.
