After many years, KZbin brought her Pirates audition to my screen again and this time I paid attention to how she started each song. She began acapella -- unaccompanied -- without any discernible tuning note from any outside source to guide her to the first tone. She just knew what it was beforehand. It is a rare ability, maybe one in ten thousand according to Wikipedia, to possess what they call perfect pitch.

This audition is priceless. I smile every time I listen to it. Jackie's voice at nine was so smooth and mellow. I think this is the first time I've heard the National Anthem sung so sweetly, it is almost a lullaby. The magic of Jackie. I'm sure that performance was all the adults in attendance there could talk about the rest of the day. Kinda feel sorry for the other try outs though. They surely had no idea what they were up against until Jackie started to sing. No doubt there was applause afterwards. You can tell Jackie was born to do this. She was anxious, not nervous, and even showed off a little bit. She had reason to be proud of herself. Maybe she saw visions of stardom that day. We all did when we got to see the opening season performance.

@brgilbert25 ай бұрын
@@elizabethhurley1129 Ah, no!! If you listened to the broadcast you will hear Jackie singing so far off key you might say "that really sounds bad Jackie". If you catch "that" video you will see, after they focus their camera on Jackie, you will see Jackie cringe just a little. So, what happened?? Well, ABC broadcast the live feed which everyone else picked-up, you know--all the usual suspects: NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and a few others and maybe even BBC except from Australia. They sent a team to the inauguration and picked up the live feed. Sounded a tad better. Most of the Jackie fans noticed this and even commented on the fact that ABC sabotaged Jackie's performance--on purpose. You might classify them to be left leaning but being an "advocate of freedom of speech" I will NOT hold that against you and also I understand you are a Jackie fan. And having seen some of your posts I was left with the impression you are from Great Britain, I think. I would also add, being old as dirt and admittedly "educated", I don't like or use those terms, "left or far left or right or far right and neither conservative or liberal as younger people and too many older individuals do as to what they think it means or how it is used today which is the category I put you in. I know where those terms come from and how and what they meant when first used. So, when those terms are bandied about what it means to me is, to be blunt, "they all are a bunch of lying, thieving, cheating crooks!!!!!!!!!!

I get chills & goosebumps every time I hear this. Probably my favorite rendition of this song of all time. She keeps it so pure & simple & doesn't try to doctor up the song or make it all fancy because it doesn't need any of that. People ruin the song & make it so annoying to listen to when they try to make it all complicated & add runs every few seconds. She just keeps it perfect as it is, & sings it perfectly. I think showing this video version to people at July 4th parties & get-togethers helps people remember the true reason we celebrate Independence Day. :-)
@rd19034 жыл бұрын
Yes. Other singers have trouble singing the notes properly and staying on pitch. To compensate they add riffs and flourishes to cover for their inadequacies and pretend like they're really giving it their personal stamp. It's our National Anthem and isn't open to personal interpretation. It is meant to be sung as written. Everyone else acts like they are the center of attention and it's all about them and not the song. Jackie is the only one who makes it about the song. Since she was 10 when she finishes now she *never* waves to the crowd, takes a bow or raises her hands in the air to say 'look at me' 'look at me' like others do. She politely smiles and walks away. Her octave jump on the word 'free' is still the best I've ever heard. Not only in purity of tone but she doesn't go too far trying to show off. It's a fact that if she wanted to she could extend a high note like that up to 14 seconds without waffling, yet keeps it to 2 seconds just for the effect.

She goes from this fun playful little girl to beyond words, singer. I never seen anything like it. I hope she does more unaccompanied singing in the future. She is the only singer in my 50+ years of listening that just may sound better by herself in many songs. I hate to have anything distract from her voice. Nine years late, let me say that here we see an example of JE's perfect pitch. Unless there is a tuning fork off-camera that we don't hear, she begins each of these songs without any kind of guidance about where the first note should be on the scale of notes. I've wiki'd this question and several sources say she does in fact have perfect pitch. It's a rarity that comes with blessings and drawbacks but it's indeed interesting to see such a remarkable vocalist put it to good use.
