Did u know that the song is a celebration of the California Hip-Hop lifestyle? Tupac and Dre rap about the activity and creativity they constantly encounter, but also warn about the gang violence, crime and social ills, which they mention. They were a big part of the West Coast rap scene, with Dre creating innovative beats and setting the scene for gangsta rap, while Tupac led the way as an MC. Tupac was raised in New York, but moved to California with his family. The lifestyle he raps about in this song caught up with him and he was gunned down that next year. RIP, Tupac and Happy Belated Birthday!

Thanks for those fun facts! I'm very familiar with the song. But didn't know all of that background information. It makes the collaboration even more important. It was ironic that Pac was from the East Coast originally, yet he repped Cali like he was a native. A guy who was raised in Baltimore & NY had so much respect for his affiliation with Cali and Death Row. #RESPECT THE CULTURE🖤🌎✌🏽

Roger is really singing (using his Talk Box) on this song and sings part of his older song "Dance Floor" (Shake it, Shake it Baby). The sample is from Joe Cocker's song "Woman to Woman." California love chorus was from "West Coast Pop Lock" by Ronnie Hudson and the Street People.

If I'm not mistaken, The hook isn't a Roger&Zapp Sample. That's Roger Talkbox voice making the hook, The hook comes from a song called the West Coast Pop Lock by Ronnie Hudson which Zapp also took the So Ruff, So Tuff from the same song. Roger was on a bunch of rap and r&b songs in the 90's as he was heavily wanted as a solo artist after he left Zapp.

At this time, Pac had just got out of jail, and everybody was watching closely cause nobody knew exactly what to expect from him or what kind of dude he had become. As a true Gemini, the Joker of the zodiac, he tricked journalist who interviewed him while he was locked up, telling them he was a lot more laid back and wanted to stay out of trouble. But when he got out, he was even worse than before. And was about to take everybody for one helluva ride. He shot 2 cops in Atlanta earlier in his career then he got shot 5 times before he got locked up in NewYork later, like once in the chest and arm, once in his nuts, and twice in his head. So when he got out of jail, he was ready for revenge cause he never got over what they did to him. Instead, he got out looking like brand new.
