I like that you've focused on using the dim7 arpeggio with just 4 notes, followed by connecting to the next resolvable chord tone; from any position on the neck no less. It helps one develop an ear for this unique scale/arpeggio and from a starting point within the familiar 7th chord. Dim7 chord/scale/arpeggio can be intimidating as they're so outside of everything, so some of us flirt with but never figure out how to use them. Well done and thanks for all the videos!

You're a great teacher Jack. It is rare that somebody has the patience to teach in a laid-back way like this. It's refreshing. Thank you for sharing. I'm on TrueFire yearly plan so I take lessons from you often on that website.

Yes is an incredible lesson! Its interesting to me how a lot of players that I hear that play more harmonically complex or “outside” stuff can sound really odd to me but the way everything you play seems to have a wonderful resolve just makes it all sound so great! Some guys get pretty far out there which is fine but it has to sound good to the ear and you never disappoint in that regard!

Hi Jack thanks for another great lesson. Your channel is the best on KZbin by a country mile. I'm working my way through your shades of blues course on truefire its really great. I love the way you start with straight blues sounds and then get into jazz approaches and simply explain things alot of which would have baffled me like secondary dominants and diminished and altered sounds.Your a great player and teacher. Thanks for sharing your knowledge it's much appreciated.

Finally getting into this in all Keys. Great lesson. And the funny thing about a Flat 9 is that EVERY Guitarist that knows zero theory and plays a blues scale is playing a Flat 9 on the IV Chord! It's only when they hear its "wrong" they tense up. These days I play wrong notes as much as I can, to see how I can resolve things or continue a long improv. I did this at Guitar Institute but to be honest You explain it better. Far better and infact resolving it the way you do it is next level. Ill put the A7 to D minor in Ableton.

My juniors are incredibly noisy if I’m in a Bad room for sure . They are about 8k output. I live in a terrible place for noise but they do pickup sound a lot, if you are somewhere where your guitar is very noisy, I wouldn’t expect a huge improvement

Nicely explained and very accessible! This is always a very difficult concept for a lot of cats to grasp early on, including myself for years. Mainly because of playing cover tunes or just straight up blues or rock based material, you don't get a chance to use it. But it is definitely key to making your Blues way more cool and hip coming from the Robben Ford School! Believe me, I work on it constantly, just because it's one of those things I've never developed 100%! Once again, thanks for explaining it in very digestible chunks to assimilate! Don't forget about the outside chops to create an altered V7 going back to one.

I'm trying to follow this because I love your relaxed jazzy, bluesy playing. But it's hard sometimes to see where your fingers are actually landing. I'm probably trying to run before I can walk but a few chord and arpeggio symbols would clarify some details but I guess I need to use my ears and work out exactly what notes and chords are sounding. Great lesson, clear explanation. Thanks.

And the flat 9... if you're starting on the 3rd of the A7, to get that dismissed sound, then you won't have the A note that would've clashed with the flat 9, which really wants to pull back to that A when you switch back to the D7 chord. If that makes sense.
