Hey, there’s four of my video clips on there! I don’t mind. Actually we don’t use pintle hooks like you showed, that would be a big no-no. We use Ringfeders which are a lot better and stronger. We’ve got a Kenworth factory here which makes Kenworths for Aussie conditions and are in fact the best selling heavy duty truck in Australia.

Here in Michigan those 'road trains' you mention are what we call supertrains or Michigan centipedes These are gravel haulers mostly. Reason being from the tandem on the semi to the last axle on the last trailer all you see is tires. Michigan has terrible roads yet allows some of the heaviest trucks in the USA. To keep too much weight from being on one part of the road at one time you put more tires on the ground.

@@BeastMode-4422 Depending on Application. A lot of European Brands such as volvo, scania etc have a big influence here in the heavy haul and mining industries. They usually have power plants up 750hp. American Brands are also admired down here. Engine tuning wise, not a whole lot. But I've driven Kenworths fitted with Cummins engines up to 600hp. Heavy duty driveline components are usually a big help in weight pulling. But anythings possible with money. I don't see why engine tuning is a bad idea.

To anyone watching this: please watch and support Outback Truckers. Seasons 1-3 are on netflix and they're working on getting 4-9 ported over asap. Also, Australian Kenworth trucks are nowhere like the North American ones. Kenworth Australia is virtually independent when it comes to design, engineering, and manufacturing. They really know how to build a truck. Lastly, Mack just celebrated 100 years in Australia and they still have the SuperLiner there.
@andrewhallett-patterson97783 жыл бұрын
Remember. Like Volvo Australias acquisition of Mack Australia operations, Scanias acquisition of Kenworth Australia operations was to ensure liquidation was terminated. Failure to invest in new technologies and modern manufacturing techniques was the underlying issue that caused initial instability. Subsequent acquisition of Mack and Kenworth operations was not sudden, both Volvo and Scania being major shareholders and investors of sans operations for over a decade. 👍👍🇦🇺

@andrewhallett-patterson97783 жыл бұрын
@William Underwood Twin stick Mack gearboxes, commonly found in the B series, are known in Australia as a 'Joey Box', a reference to a kangaroo and her baby, called a Joey. Simply allows upper and lower ratio selection. My family transport company had 14 trucks engaged in the South Australian mining industry. My dad has restored 2 to orginal condition as presented when purchased. The trick to use was to be able to change ratios by putting your arm thru the steering wheel, the joey stick knob in your inner elbow, returning your hand to the wheel to retain control whilst changing gears with your other hand which is now across your chest. Making sure air pressure is at maximum to engage the pneumatic assisted hydraulic clutch, you double declutch every gear, up and down. It helps if you're a contortionist!!.

In Aus our most popular trucks are Kenworth, Volvo, Mercedes, Westen star, Isuzu, Scania, UD and Mitsubishi.

Road trains ae normally not allowed on the East coast of Australia but 'B' doubles are. There is quite a few regulations so I am not going to list them here. There are permits issued for some jobs on a limited basis. In NSW it's pretty open for road trains West of the towns Griffith and Dubbo and Moree. In Victoria around Mildura in the North West their allowed and (not 100% sure....but) S.A. 3 trailer rigs West and North of Port Augusta on the trans Aussie route and 'B' doubles OK in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide. I've been retired for many years but I do know there are more regulations today than back then!
