The super sad thing is, because Sindri brought Brok back to life with an incomplete soul, Brok's soul can't go to any afterlife - be it Hel or Valhalla or wherever. The remaining parts of Brok's soul just simply scatter in whatever direction they choose and cease to exist. I don't know if Sindri knew this, but knowing Brok's soul will never rest, and it's basically because of his doing, has to leave Sindri with some form of guilt as well as mourning.

People talk about Sindri, but I want to point out the impact this scene will have on Atreus…. This is truly the first time Atreus felt the consequences of his actions. In the past, whenever Atreus made a mistake, Kratos was there to solve all the loose ends. It’s why he grows so confident in 2018, and why he’s so ambitious now. If Brok hadn’t been killed and Sindri so devastated, Atreus might not have ever left Kratos’ side, destiny or not. It was the realization that there are some actions that he MUST take responsibility for, for they are impossible to just fix.

Throughout both games, Atreus rides on the high of being a demigod and in Ragnorak, a giant. Even when something bad happens, he has the reliability of his dad coming in to help him fix things. But Brok's death is something even the God of War can't fix.

@@elijahpark5344and something Sindri should’ve left well enough alone. Keep in mind, Atreus had never met Sindri or Brok earlier in 2018’s story, and only Kratos was the one who knew about Brok’s death when the Lady of the Forge didn’t speak with him. She could communicate with Kratos & forge Draupnir, but she couldn’t communicate with Brok since he’s basically undead. It’s Sindri’s fault Brok was denied an afterlife; sure, Sindri had his reasons, and Brok seems to be the only family he has left, but how was Atreus supposed to know any of this?
@kacpernowak808811 ай бұрын
@@AlastorAltruistGaming This doesn't have anything to do with this situation. We are talking about Broks death and Atreuses role in it, not the fact that he doesn't have a part of his soul. That detail, however, was the thing that made Atreus truly feel the consequences - when we were travelling to the temple, he was already (like everyone would) trying to find the way to fix this. The only reason it cannot happen is Sindri's mistake, but if Atreus was less selfish, maybe it would work out a little better.

@@nolanhewitt2563 I think you have a slight misperception of what FromSoft games are like. Although they're infamous for their difficulty, the amount of lore and storytelling that they contain is extremely immersive. In addition, despite how hard the game is, the magic of elden ring came from how immersive its open world was, much like BotW's in style, taking what made BotW and turning it into a deeper fantasy setting. The irony is that the Last of Us 2 getting GotY was maybe part of the reason why GoW didn't. The greatest complaint of TLOU2 was that it was TOO narrative, with little game behind it, many calling it a visual novel rather than a game. While GoW is anything but a visual novel, the narrative overshadows the actual gameplay, with the main complaint being that the game is more like an interactive movie (which I personally don't see as a bad thing, but whatever) than a video game. While I believe this is wrong, this is what the critics say. Tbh, I completely expected it. And the outcome was fair in the end. GoW literally won every award for narrative and story, but because Elden Ring was more comprehensive as a game, Elden Ring won.

The minute I saw this scene I KNEW it would have strong repercussions for Atreus’ future character arc even as it stands as the peak of the one he went through in Ragnarok. Because yes, nothing about brok’s death was ACTIVELY his fault. Searching for Tyr wasn’t even a bad idea in the long run. THAT plays into the main crux of Ragnarok. That both Kratos and Atreus were right in their wants in the beginning of the game, but also wrong at the same time. Atreus wants to help, wants to do something, knows that they have a role in what is happening, but is too rash, too inexperienced, to young and overconfident and inconsiderate of what war can mean. Kratos wants nothing to do with another world ending prophecy, especially not with his child involved, and would rather hide away and not accept Atreus’ role in what is happening around them. Brok’s death served the purpose of teaching Atreus that innocent people, and people you love, can bear the brunt of war. War and violence bring pain and suffering and loss, even if the motivations for the war are just. Even if what you are fighting for will help more people in the long run, no one escapes the effects of the violence. Atreus was not misguided, but rather blinded by inexperience and his own ideas of what helping should look like. And with the miscommunication between Kratos and Atreus, there was no good opportunity for Kratos to try healthily impart that knowledge onto him, because Kratos was dealing with his inability to let Atreus go and relinquish the control he feels he must have over his son to keep him safe. That struggle didn’t allow him to have healthy conversations about this with Atreus, and in fact only pushed his son further from him, causing a chain of events that led us here, to this scene, to a pain and loss that will be integral to the character Atreus will become. So while Sindri is dealing with his own pain, his own loss, his own shortcomings, and is wrong to place all blame on a child, you can’t really blame him in this moment, and Atreus will not blame him either. Atreus will actively blame himself, because he will take his father’s lesson to heart: “Intent does not matter. Only consequences.” Sindri and Atreus now have a dynamic that is inherently tragic, because they are family ripped apart by pain and violence, which is one of the main ongoing themes in the entire God of War franchise. It’s all just top tier writing and I cannot wait to see where santa monica takes these characters next.

"Mourn how you wish." Isn't that the same thing Kratos said to Atraus, when Atraus was mourning and through Kratos didn't care?

Sindri kind of reminds me of Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. he couldn't let go and because of it, he lost everything. the only difference between the two of them is Ed was able to undo his mistakes. His story had a happy ending. Sindri's does not. it goes to show that no matter what you believe, no matter what your faith is, or lack thereof, one thing stands true. You cannot cheat death. death is inevitable. it is not easy, but it is necessary. what's gone is gone. you can't bring it back and any attempts to do so will only serve to make things worse on both yourself and others.

Personally i dont think ragnarok was a better game then the original however, brok and sindris parts in the story hit higher heights than the original ever did. They made such an emotional and touching story from two characters who were just supposed to bring levity to the original and gor that i give some respect to ragnarok.

It wasn’t Atreus’s fault that happened they thought it was a real Tyr it was never his fault they didn’t know
@wiredhubworld952311 ай бұрын
He may not have done it on purpose, but it's still his fault regardless. Atreus tends to do things without really thinking of the potential consequences. Him releasing Garm is a good example. Even Heimdall calls him out on his flaws, and he wasn't wrong. In fact, Odin and Thor wouldn't have shown up at their home if Atreus hadn't been trying to find Tyr, meaning the game wouldn't have even started if it weren't for him. That's why he's Loki.

But they all warned Atreus not to fool with Odin… and he did, anyway. THAT’S why he was blamed.
@tmc3139011 ай бұрын
And as someone else pointed out, Loki’s known for his screwups, which, usually out of recklessness, has caused mayhem or put the gods in some turmoil. With Atreus being GOW’s version of Loki, it’s kinda playing to the myth of the Norse God’s penchant for recklessness.

At the same time, however, how was Atreus supposed to know Tyr was actually Odin this whole time? Kratos even forgives Atreus because all he made was a mistake. Keep in mind, Atreus was still a young man at this point; you & I were once a bunch of dumb teenagers in our lives, and we’ve made mistakes. Atreus was still attempting to find his purpose too; yeah, he should’ve waited, but it’s been 3 years after Baldur’s death, which was meant to kick off the events of Ragnarök anyway.
@wiredhubworld952311 ай бұрын
@angeryboigaming8562 Yes, but that doesn't change the fact it's his fault. Actions can have consequences, and unlike us at his age, Atreus's have major consequences in comparison. Atreus had plenty of chances to stop and listen to everyone, but he didn't listen. Also, the game dropped plenty of hints that Tyr was Odin. The "walking stick" line when they freed him was a dead giveaway.

I can’t feel bad for Sindri. I mean a large portion of the problems he and brok had ultimately stem from him. And while I understand that grief makes people unreasonable sometimes, Sindri is beyond unreasonable. I mean he was almost even willing to not help during ragnarok because brok was killed by Odin. And I think it’s especially bullshit that not only was he fooled but Atreus was fooled, kratos was fooled, Freya was fooled every single one of their war council was fooled by Odin and his deception. Blaming ANYONE but Odin and himself for broks death is just plain annoying in my opinion. Even if I do fully understand Sindri’s point of view I just can’t feel bad for him because so much of what happened is his fault. But it also makes me appreciate kratos so much more, he doesn’t chastise Sindri for speaking the way he did to Atreus. He literally just looks down upon him and says “mourn how you wish.” Which stings way way way way more because Sindri knows he fucked up by pushing kratos and Atreus away.
