Jackson and April "You Were Good to Me" (+17x14)

spoilers for 17x14!!!
I AM STILL IN SHOCK! WE ARE GETTING OUR JAPRIL ENDGAME AFTER ALL!!! When they announced that Sarah Drew was coming back for an episode, I desperately hoped for the barest of japril crumbs. I hoped they'd find a way to write out the matthew/april marriage but I really didn't think it would happen. Then as the episode was airing my hopes kept getting smaller and smaller... BUT THEN! April said those three magical words "we split up" and I legit screamed! Never been happier to hear about the failure of a fictional marriage, ngl. Anyways, while I'm sad Jesse Williams is leaving the show, the way they've set up Jackson's potential reunion with April was the absolute best ending for him that I could have picked. Even though its taking place off screen, we know they'll get back together in Boston (I was going to write 'fall back in love' but then erased it because to be perfectly honest I don't think they ever stopped loving each other, rather they just couldn't work through the pain that was separating them).
I have always wanted to vid Japril but it never quite worked out. I had a super sad song picked out back when season 14 was airing and I tried to edit them then, but never got more than 30 seconds of it finished. But this vid practically made itself! I started and finished the damn thing in less than 24 hours, which may be a record for me (I am literally the slowest vidder, I have no idea how some people just churn them out one after the other). This song randomly showed up on my playlist yesterday and I kept it in mind when I was browsing through songs before ultimatley coming back to it and boy am I glad I chose it because as I vidded every verse just seemed more and more fitting. I especially liked that the tone of this song is that love still exists even where a relationship may have failed, because that is just sooo so Japril.

At least we got the endgame! I really didn't think it would still be possible after all this time, but I am very glad they managed to somewhat fix the huge mistake of firing Sarah Drew and writing out April in the first place

Jackson was okay leaving but he made sure he left grey's with April by his side. They're each other person after all. Say what you want but the way Jesse so loyal to #japril storyline is *chef's kiss* the kind of love and respect he had for Sarah tho. I can only wish they marry each other in the next life 😝🥺

Now that I've watched the episode, I miss them even more. It is great that we got to see these two together again, but also it is sad to see April for just one episode and to be saying goodbye to Jackson.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean, this episode made me truly excited for my ship and for Greys for the first time in a long time and I wish it could have been that way for the last few seasons, because having no April and no Japril made the show lose so much of its appeal to me, personally. Losing Jackson for good now, even though I know he's getting his happy ending, is also really sad because he was probably my favorite character of everyone who was still left on the show.

Even if it was like a 10 episodes thing just for us and them. They way they Sarah and Jesse wanted and asked to leave 17x14 with a kind of wondering and hope for April and Jackson was SO good. Imagining their lives in Boston, from the end of season 18 we know they are together but not sure if they are like "we are starting again, let's go slowly" or already all in; season 19 shows a Jackson that looks like by not being at the hospital all the time has more time for Harriet (going to her ballet recital) - not saying he wouldn't go but being a surgeon makes it harder to be present all the time but he was already an amazing father; I'd like to see April maybe being a badass head of trauma in a hospital or doing what she was doing before moving: helping people with less access to heath care; see the beginning: 2 places and then the relationship just works because they are now who they are meant to be? No more of their "bad timing"...; would be funny to see Harriet asking about their story... like those awkward children questions, that people don't always know what to say 😛 idk what the story could be, I just know it would be great!

After all these years I'm still torn by how they destroyed Japril. The emotions are still raw. But episode 14 gave us our endgame. Thank you for this vid. The song and the scene selection were amazing.

The way they just completely collapsed the Japril storyline back in season 14 will forever be one of my biggest and bitterest disappointments with this show- firing sarah drew literally made no sense!- but as you said we've got our closure and our endgame with 17x14 and I am very deeply appreciate of that! @@bookdork1 Yeah they just announced Ellen signed. Maybe they will get updates since the hospital is under the foundation. I kept saying they were endgame but couldnt imagine how to write them together so Matthew leaving made sense. This scene was beautifully written- having them support each other as friends and not hopping in the sack together. That will be in the spinoff!!!🤞🤞🤞

@@angelariley3082 Oh, very cool, I had checked after Jesse announced his exit but they didn't have any info about show renewal yet so I'm glad that's settled now! I was also really happy with how they handled Japril, they've done impulsive before and as much as I love them when they're impulsive, that's not where they're at in their lives anymore and they have Harriet to think about, so of course they don't want to risk their successful co-pareting of her by starting something on a whim. I think it makes much more sense for them to wait and get back together in Boston down the road (lol a spin off would be perfect i'll keep my fingers crossed on that front!)

Jackson has hinted that he never really got over April. There is the lingering glances at eachother. I think ultimately, it's up to the viewers to decide if they get back together in Boston. I could see Jackson coming back esaily. Jesse left on good terms, Jackson made a cameo in the finale, and Jackson still has friends and family in Seattle.
