Yes. Good cover. Eric Coapton does a good one too. Absolute magical song to me.

Beautiful rendition of an absolutely beautiful song. Dylan wrote it for his wife, Sara.

I love this song. It's absolutely beautiful, the lyrics, the instruments, the man. ❤

My love she speaks like silence, Without ideals or violence, She doesn't have to say she's faithful, Yet she's true, like ice, like fire. People carry roses, Make promises by the hours, My love she laughs like the flowers, Valentines can't buy her. In the dime stores and bus stations, People talk of situations, Read books, repeat quotations, Draw conclusions on the wall. Some speak of the future, My love she speaks softly, She knows there's no success like failure And that failure's no success at all. The cloak and dagger dangles, Madams light the candles. In ceremonies of the horsemen, Even the pawn must hold a grudge. Statues made of match sticks, Crumble into one another, My love winks, she does not bother, She knows too much to argue or to judge. The bridge at midnight trembles, The country doctor rambles, Bankers' nieces seek perfection, Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring. The wind howls like a hammer, The night blows cold and rainy, My love she's like some raven At my window with a broken wing.

Best rendition of this song! It's got that lovely Hammond organ, courtesy of Benmont Tench. Jonathan Wilson's lead guitar is good, as is Jim Keltner's drumming, and let's not forget about the bassline, played by Tal Wilkenfeld. Quite a lineup on this version.

Just beautiful, one of the best 3 or 4 covers on this album, if not the best. Staying true to the song but adding the unmistakable JB band instrumentation, plus that still melt your heart voice = near perfection. Especially liked the classic JB instrumental coda, WIN!

A songwriting masterpiece. Just one of so many from the Master, Bob Dylan. "Statues made of matchsticks, crumble into one another . . . ". Well, time for me to go listen to "Fourth Time Around" . . . and for me, that being about the 100th time around!

It's almost magical how brilliant this song is in its simplicity (but not in terms of lyrics! - these are pure poetry)
@jerrywoodcock28578 жыл бұрын
And your version, Bogo, does a great job of honoring that simplicity and Dylan's original acoustic version with your voice & guitar ! Good work ! Keep playing & singing.

That's Benmont Tench on keys. All the instrumentation is good, from the organ work by Benmont Tench, to the lead guitar, played by Jonathan Wilson, to the drumming by Jim Keltner, and let's not forget about the bassline, played by Tal Wilkenfeld. Browne himself plays acoustic guitar on this rendition. Quite a lineup on here.

I am a huge Dylan fan and I agree with you that Nelson's version of this one is really good. He brings a cherry-wood type quality to it that really works.

right on, JB. this is nice, clean, quiet understated Dylan cover. not just anyone can do this. there's (almost) nothing worse than a bad Dylan cover but you really made this work. I'd like to add that I'm still available to be your backup singer as I offered via postal mail correspondence back in 1994.... im just saying....
@stargazer67534 жыл бұрын
Absolutely love your comment starting with the nice , clean, quiet understated Dylan cover. Isn’t Jackson Browne the best at these kinds of covers ? As for Jackson, maybe he would take us both on as duo backup singers ? I’m game.

crazy if you think about it. Zimmy is gifted way way way beyond ANY artist before or after life. The Icon of our life and most musicians agree. It's the ignorant that don't get it. Hey Dylan lovers, check out the letter he sent to thank the board of directors in Sweden for his nomination for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize for literature. Bobby had their hearts and brains floating in the mist of the gathering. Totally leaving them no doubt why he was chosen
@stargazer67534 жыл бұрын
lumaz71. As usual Jackson does his best in representing the artist, not giving his own interpretation. For those who are negatively criticizing Jackson, maybe you should review the original.
