Snorkelling in the Maldives - Kandolhu & Vilamendhoo - 2016

Filmed on the house reefs of Kandolhu and Vilamendhoo in March 2016. The Whale Shark and Manta Ray footage is from the Ocean Discovery trip at Vilamendhoo.
Video footage is from a GoPro 4 Silver and was edited in iMovie. Still images are from an Olympus TG4 and were edited in Lightroom.

Great video! My wife and I will be going to Vilamendhoo for the first time in November this year, and can't wait. Which of the excursions did you go on? Manta,Whale Shark and Ocean Discovery? Also, did you use a shallow water filter with your GoPro? Footage looks great, and the water so blue! Thanks for sharing.

Hiya, Which house reef was better? I've been to Vilamendhoo and loved the island and reef but i want to go to another island. I just want a house reef as good as vilamendhoo

Great wealth of information and brilliant footage! How do you manage to keep the camera so still underwater? I really struggle!

Thanks. The camera is mounted on a GoPole Evo extension pole and usually it is just a case of trying to keep as still as possible, and often holding it with two hands. You will notice that the clips of each fish are fairly short, and I try to take the best 5- 7 seconds for each clip, and it may be that the rest of the footage is much shakier and doesn't get used. A 10 minute video will be made from 10+ hours of footage, and sadly some of the footage that you think that will be great at the time ends up discarded due to too much movement, poor lighting, or fish which are slightly out of frame. I also use the image stabilisation function in iMovie which helps to make the footage look a little better. Finally, mother nature plays a massive part, and if the conditions at sea are rough or choppy then it is much tougher to get good footage. We were very lucky at both Kandolhu and Vilamendhoo to have almost perfect conditions on most days, so that certainly helped!
