The contrast of the men doing the ancient Haka with ties and in suit shirts makes it even more impressive. It shows that this tradition will outlast time and space and as long as these people honor the traditions of their ancestors, their ancestors will never die. They are alive in every movement of these men.

Every time I see the haka it brings tears to my eyes, because my ancestors left our ancestral land Hawaiki, to search for food and a new home for our people to survive. Today our home is Aotearoa or New Zealand. I’m proud to be Māori, tumeke.💙🇳🇿

Watching yr Maori traditions nd yr Haka,s that spirit go, s right thru me. And I'm thousands of miles away from U in South Africa. Since young I always read about The Maori, s nd was always fascinated until much later the day came when I saw it live for the very first time it completely blew me away so immersed I was in it.

Despite the fact that it's such a raw display of emotion and intensity .. In this context it is an inexplicably high honor to have haka tautoko performed for you (a haka of support). Its associated with love, respect, support and well wishes. It does speak to people on a very primal level so those goosebumps, emotions and feelings you're experiencing are a very normal reaction. Also you dont often see people connect on this level anymore so it can be overwhelming but in a good way.

My husband and I had out wedding on the Island of Oahu, my sister lived there at the time and we fell in love with the culture. We didn't have it on the touristy Diamond Head(Even though it is beautiful). We had it at a little private park that used to be private property. We live in Louisiana and there was a student on the LSU Football team that was from Hawaii and his brother, father and friends did the Haka dance for him before the game. I thought it was amazing. Then when went to "The Kings Luau" I got the opportunity to see it up front and close, it was awesome and I totally respect those young men. Mahalo!

I saw the Brazil women's national rugby sevens team do a haka on TV for the New Zealand women's rugby sevens team. They had come to New Zealand for a rugby tournament, but came two weeks early to train because their coach was Maori. They lived in a traditional Maori meeting house in a big communal room and lived and ate alongside the local Maori who were the coaches tribe. The Brazilian team all got traditional maori tattoos and we're taught maori songs and a haka. Girls do a different style of haka. More demure and graceful yet still fierce with their actions, and not squatting or poking tongues. I tried to look for this haka on KZbin but couldn't find it. The Brazilian girls nailed it and we're naturals. Maori and Portuguese have the same vowels.
