Dear Jack, good video.Only if you go to China in person will you realize how hateful the western media is, the security, the architecture, the food, the convenience, the subway, the technology, etc. Only if you have been to China will you realize how amazing the development of China is.I went to China a few years ago.hen I return home and tell my co-workers about my travels to China.... they refuse to believe me or the pictures I took. They just want to believe that I was shown around a "fake city" built for showing tourists. The fact that I was walking around these cities unescorted... still won't change their beliefs. No, these people still want to believe that China has "backward smoggy cities, where everyone still rides bicycles and wear grey old clothes because they are all poor and starving". I often hear ignorant statements such as: "The poorest Americans still live better than the average Chinese". The irony is these people never traveled to China or even want to watch these videos. And yet... these folks talk like they are all "China experts'. Very sad... and infuriating at the same time.I enjoy your videos, have fun in China!

I am Chinese and welcome everyone to travel to China! There is a Chinese proverb: It is such a joy to have friends come from afar (It is such a joy and joy to have friends come from afar or from other countries.). There are many surveillance cameras in China, but they are only in public places, and people from all agencies cannot directly access them or view them. Only when a crime occurs, the police have the power to use them. They are designed to combat crime, so You can completely ignore it. So you can be alone on any street and road almost 24 hours a day, very safe. In addition, Chinese people have a lot of English education, mainly young people, but their language proficiency is limited, so when you communicate with Chinese people, you can communicate simply word by word, so that they can understand and help you. Hi Jack, good video. But I need to correct you. “Bonsai” is not traditionally Japanese, it’s originally Chinese, called “Penjing” which means “ potted miniature landscape”. The “West” thought it was Japanese probably because they first introduced it, but I can assure you it’s definitely Chinese origin. Mind you so are many other “Japanese” culture that is in fact borrowed from China eg Tea culture, Silk , Tofu, eating with chopsticks, and many more.

Even Japan's name as a nation (Nippon) and the whole identity as the Sun Nation as well as the saying "Land of the Rising Sun" had its association with China. Fusang is a plant that is common in the eastern region of China and in old Chinese poetry and literature, poets often described the Sun rising above the Fusang tree and later on Japanese were often referred to as Fusang people in China.... as well as "Wa" which were used to describe the Japanese. Since Wa was a less flattering name as it means 'short'.... eventually Japan adopted the name Fusang and embraced that as their identity as the nation East of China. Here are some more tidbits of information "Fusang is pronounced Fusō in Japanese, from classical Fusau, and it is one of the names which is used as a designation for ancient Japan. Several warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy were named Fusō (the Japanese ironclad warship Fusō, or the World War II battleship Fusō). Several companies, such as Fuso, also bear the name. "

Bonsai is an ancient Chinese art that was later spread to Japan. Now the English name is "bonsai". The Chinese name is "盆景" and the Japanese name is "盆栽". Since ancient times, China is the center of East Asian culture. Japanese culture is deeply influenced by Chinese culture. Japanese characters, calligraphy, cherry blossoms, ancient architecture and bonsai etc are all spread to Japan from China. Japanese kimono is evolved from the clothing of the Tang Dynasty in China. The most important thing is that the influence of Confucian philosophy has a great impact on such countries as Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Vietnam and etc.
Just a minor correction in minute 1:51 (I had to rewind it to make sure I didn't mis-heard what you said as a fact) you said the Chinese country brought 8 million people out of poverty in the last 20 or 30 years... The word bonsai is Japanese, but the concept of planting miniature trees in a pot originated from China over 3,000 years ago. Therefore, the “bonsai” plants you saw in the garden are NOT copies of Japanese but a Chinese tradition. Originated in China and developed independently in both countries

@jacktorr Miniature plant in pot is the meaning of Bonzai in Japan or Penjing in China. However this planting technique originated from China, rather than Japan. The Bon of Bonzai is Pen (pot in English) with Zai for Grow or plant. In Kanji (汉字) it is 盆栽。The Pen of Penjing is also 盆 with Jing for 景 as scenery or display.

Just because Japan is the first industrialised asian country, almost most Oriental culture was known to the western from Japan, as such mistaken for Japanese origin, which is wrong in most cases including Bonzai, Japenese crane (丹顶鹤 a bird with red top of head), Nipponia nippon/Crested ibis (朱鹮, a beautiful cute bird), and so on. This list is quite long. Even the board game GO is of Chinese origin, but today it is called in Japanese pronunciation of Weiqi 围棋.

You can go to Hangzhou! its the design city of Shanghai, lots of modern art and design. Also they have the west lake, pretty cool ancient lake
When you are talking about cultural stuff. Such as that "similar" to Japan, Korea, Vietnam, or other South Asia countries. Chinese culture has a lot of influence on their own culture. They learned, transformed, and immigrated to their countries. Even Korea and Vietnam were both Vassal states or their ruler originated from China. However, we also got some influence from them, such as the Buddhist culture of Nepal, India, and Thailand. But nowadays, people know about Asian cultures, such as Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and other South Asian countries, which are more than China. One reason is China's internal problems, being invaded, some internal mistakes, cultural rectification, and the country's late return to normalcy and opening to the outside world after being invaded by several countries. But most importantly, the government system differs from those five eyes countries. And there are global political issues. I don't want to discuss the political problems, but it significantly influences international cultural communication. Some countries in the West have always wanted to split China. One of their organizations has always considered carving up China's territory and resources. They know the true history and that China's rejuvenation cannot be resisted. So, in modern times, when the only hegemon of the West took control of global military and economic power, they created media to brainwash foreigners outside of China every day. Most foreigners I see overseas have very negative comments about China every day. There are few opportunities to talk with them in detail and correct their misconceptions about China. They will immediately tell you that you have been brainwashed and that you are a communist. This brainwashing propaganda has caused Western people to fear China. But because that hegemon controls Japan and South Korea, Westerners have a much better opinion of Japan and South Korea than China. This is also one of the reasons why they first came into contact with Japanese and Korean culture. So, I disagree that when you meet China for the first time, you will feel and say its culture is very similar to that of other Asian countries such as Japan and South Korea. Not because I am rejecting or resisting other Asian countries' own cultures. My main point is that I hope you Westerners can genuinely understand the true origins and transmission channels of Asian countries' culture. Especially Chinese culture. Therefore, many people's understanding of China should be corrected. Most of the education you receive from Western media and governments about China and Asia needs to be updated and corrected.

Those things you mentioned in your videos are actually Pengjin. Japanese bonsai was originated from Chinese Pengjin. Chinese Pengjin was historically before Bonsai a lot. ‘’Bonsai (Japanese: 盆栽, lit. 'tray planting', pronounced [boɰ̃sai] ⓘ)[1] is the East Asian art (though popularly conceived as a Japanese artform) of growing and training[clarification needed] miniature trees in containers, developed from the traditional Chinese art form of penjing (盆景). Penjing and bonsai differ in that the former attempts to display "wilder," more naturalistic scenes, often representing landscapes, including elements such as water, rocks, or figurines; on the other hand, bonsai typically focuses on a single tree or a group of trees of the same species, with a higher level of aesthetic refinement.[2][3]’’ cited just from the first paragraph of Bonsai in Wikipedia.

@canto_v12 Thank you. Australia is too expensive for me now. I probably will go to north Africa or eastern Europe instead. Best wishes.

In fact, much of Japanese culture comes from China's Tang dynasty.

It's called ‘盆栽penzai’ in China. It was actually spread to Japan during the Tang and Song dynasties.

盆景 PENG JING OR 盆栽 PENG ZAI / BONZAI tree is ancient chinese culture, japanese introduced it from china, most stuff in japan you can find an origin in china, -------------Bonsai (Japanese: 盆栽, lit. 'tray planting'] is the East Asian art (though popularly conceived as a Japanese artform) of growing and training miniature trees in containers, developed from the traditional Chinese art form of penjing (盆景)

It's not 8M people out of poverty. I think it's at least 800M out of poverty since the early 80s, which means - the homeless get a house to stay in (hence you hardly see homelessness in the country), dilapidated houses are rebuilt that include better foundation with electricity, water supply and modern appliances. children regardless of ethnicities or in the most remote region, have to attend compulsory education up to min 9 year which are provided free by their local govts, and some help to revitalise regions for domestic tourism and pairing with advanced cities esp like Shanghai and Guangzhou etc to impart skills, build local hospitals, etc. I'm not from China, so any Chinese from China can confirm how much of what I say is true or not. Some I know from personal travels there, others are through watching documentaries online. Also "bonsai" originated in China, not Japan, this I know for sure. If your schools have taught some ancient history, you'd know that Japan actually borrowed heavily a lot of idea, architecture, Tang 's fashion style, culture and customs, writing systems etc from China's Tang Dynasty. Scholars had travelled across the seas and some even ended up working in the very cosmopolitan Tang Dynasty court, among whom were also some central asians and even middle easterners.
Hey mate, I’m super excited about my new Chinese channel! Check it out, share with your friends and family and big thanks! Here's the link: [youtube.com/@JackTorrChinese?si=M9D2RDUgmyHvKAOP](youtube.com/@JackTorrChinese?si=M9D2RDUgmyHvKAOP)"

Japanese culture enabled & popularized by the US as its poster child to diminish Chinese culture influence around the world and to spread Western culture in East Asia. Anime/manga allowed Japan to put itself on the map as the "Ancient Civilization" of Asia which is sad and laughable at the same time. Little do Westerners know, most of the materials the Japanese used to create their anime/manga series are based on Chinese mythologies, religions, legends, and folklores; The Book of Mountains and Seas, Taoism, Journey to the West, are some of the most used contents. Just keep one thing in mind: If a country that uses chopsticks, then that country has been greatly influenced by China, especially Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. FYI, even sashimi came from Fujian province, it isn't Japanese origin.

Actually the number of people lifted out of extreme poverty is 800 million. Not 8 million.
@allomony40109 ай бұрын
That's because they lowered the definition of poverty level so that more people were theoretically above that level.
@michaeltan66829 ай бұрын
Just a minor correction, it was 800 million Chinese out of poverty! Cheers!

It’s funny how sushi was invented in China during the tang dynasty, before it kind of lost popularity. Same goes for matcha, which was originally called 抹茶(pronounced: muo cha) which means ground tea. Over the years the trend of ground tea lost popularity in China in favor of loose tea leaves. In a sense, many aspects of Chinese culture (even now) stems from competition and curiosity. And due to the long history, trends rise and fall. In a strange but heartwarming way, the internet has helped revive many lost aspects of Chinese culture. Cultural education wasn’t emphasized for older generations (in part due to war, poverty, and revolutions) but President Xi put an emphasis and preserving and promoting so called “cultural confidence”. I’m very happy he values this because for every culture, roots are important to identity. You must know where you’ve been to know how to move forward. And I thank many creators like yourself, we need non-Chinese people speaking about your experiences. So we can let the world know, and improve any policies to streamline cultural exchange/engagement ❤

When you see somethings that are similar to Japanese or Korean, most likely, they originally came from China. Use this rule and you won't be wrong.
