Thing is, we humans are very similar genetically. Like features that are very typically European are not solely European, you can find similar facial features from Ethiopia to Hokkaido. Features that might considered solely East Asian can be found in South Africa such as the Khoisan and you can see epicanthic eyes in Africa and Northern Europe, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. And likewise you can find similar facial features from South America to Subsahara Africa His father is from Tianjin (northeastern coastal china near Beijing) which might explain what you are looking for. My grandmother has a very flat nose but because of my grandfather (Shandong) most of us have a much more prominent nose.
