There are musicians like us and then there is Jacob Collier. Jacob is not of this planet. Not only does he do everything you see in the video he's in total control and can explain very note, every progression, and why he did what he did. I love the quote from "Fascinatin' Rhythm" at the end of that incredible piano solo. Shows he's in CONTROL not just hitting any random keys. Great reaction, Marc! Just subscribed.

We had similar reactions . I shed more tears and less words . I have been a musician for 37 years and hearing Jacob, has made me start all over again . I can now play bass and keys but it’s all in it’s early stages . I was ADDICTED to JC's cut of "All Night Long" for MANY months.. SERIOUSLY! And...I tried to direct all my friends to it! One word: BADASS. Jacob Collier is my current musical hero, AND I've been listening to TAKE 6 for over 30 years! I go tell folks about BOTH of these phenomena, and hardly anyone has heard of either of these folks (except some musicians), amazingly. These 7 musicians are VALUABLE, in my humble opinion, AS WELL AS THEIR COLLEAGUES AND MUSICIANS THAT CAME BEFORE THEM. My favorites of the 20 th century: MILES DAVIS, JIMI HENDRIX and FRANK ZAPPA. In the 21st century: TAKE 6, Jacob Collier, and all their assorted guests. KUDOS to you, Marc.

To answer: Yes, that was Take 6. That was also the Metropole Orkestra. This was completing the circle for Jacob in a sense because Take 6 was one if his early influences in harmonization (along with Stevie Wonder) and they were impressed enough with him they agreed to perform on this (and a few other) songs of his, i.e. Moon River (which you should also listen to) and its 1200+ lines of composition in Logic. This musical genius never fails to make me regret ever flexing my comparitively feeble talent as a musician.

His unbelievable talent is undeniable, and his ideas are all over the place. In due time, he'll tone it down to the basic elements which would define his unique musical persona. In the meantime, I think he should do more jazz. His own generation can't keep up with the harmonies, changes, jazzy breaks, etc...despite the pop choices he makes. Too complicated for them, but good for us who get it.
