It's the great old double standard. Joe Slovo fought against evil apartheid in South Africa, but thought apartheid was great for Israel. Some victims count and some don't. It's always been that way. Today the government of Indonesia along with Chinese economic interests are committing open genocide against the Irian Jayans, but it's been decided by those in power that those people don't count.

I may be a white South African but am every bit as much an African as any of my brown skinned countrymen. My parents and parents parents & many generations before that were born here. Where do people get off telling me to go back to Europe? My taxes & taxes of my forebears, our hard work, sweat and blood lies here. My language Afrikaans praises in poetry and prose the beauty and wildness of Africa. I'm a true-born African. My claim to Africa is as good as yours & my contribution probably larger.

How is this not hate speech/racist? How is this okay when we have had such an uproar over similar type of 'anti other race' behavior from other people lately that is not okay? (irrelevant of the 'history' behind the song as some claim - Reminiscing over the past does not make it right). surely we should be going to the HRC over this or other sources to lay criminal charges just like has been done against the others of the past weeks?

Mandela made mistakes, but he was a good man and the best president we've ever had. The so-called struggle ended years ago, but instead of moving on and growing as a country, we would rather see the tables turn. No one wants freedom, they want revenge. Mandela's vision has crumbled because of the incompatibility of culture and politics. Our country (& the world) needs a whole new kind of democracy. Either that or we should just have our wars and save the world from the cancer that is all of us.

The Cape was sparsely populated when the Dutch first settled the land. However, there where at least four tribes in the area at the time. They were either small bands hunter-gatherers, or scattered communities of farmers who also raised livestock. it wasn’t until the Xhosa and Zulu began to migrate into the territory during the mid 1700s that the African population began to expand. Both tribes were far more warlike and drove the smaller tribes into extinction.

@@blank_frantic7641 South Africa is far to the south.. and it's cold. Few people lived there since Africans didn't know how to make clothing. However, during all of the Apartheid years, South Africa had one of the world's biggest illegal immigration problems. Why? Is it your job to mediate out justice? Nobody enslaved Black Africans more than the Arabs who marched them across the desert for 14 centuries and the few who made it to the destination usually suffered full castration.

You are putting words in my mouth that i never said. I am holding the ANC accountable for current problems in S-A. Since they are in power now for 20 years. It's only normal to hold a government accountable. Race is not the issue. Though ANC clearly thinks so cause they sing apartheid songs and keep that thing going. As for Africa being just fine without trading goods and people... i don't think so.

O.K white dudes, I think that although what our president said was uncalled for, let me put the song he sang into perspective. This song started being sung during the apartheid era by members of the M.K especially as sort of a moral booster. It doesn't make a lot of sense to sing it now, but to many M.K veterans, it brings back auspicious memories. So calm yourselves, it's not really a song advocating genocide.

Funny that you say that... If you do the slightest research you will know that there has been a spike in farm killings since he sang this song, which increases every month... Not too long prior to this JM was ejected from the ANC for singing the EXACT same song.

Samwell Tarly Yet if white people sang an equivalent song like that, there wouldn't be any "putting it into context." It would be "racism, full stop."

So the way it works with regards to the whites and Asians of SA is this: Tens of thousands of years ago we migrated to Eurasia where our racial groups evolved, where we spent a few millennia before returning to the motherland a few hundred years ago and helping to found the greatest nation (despite our problems) on earth. Also, perhaps you'd like to reflect on what the Zulu did to other black tribes, the British did to the Boers and how we all collectively almost drove the Khoisan to extinction?
