As someone who hunted for a borzoi for YEARS and ended up getting a...rescue??? But not quite? It ended up being a bad situation for the breeder in 2020, long story short. I was so nervous at first. His foster warned me he was a big boy and needed a raw diet for his coat after some dehydration amd sun damage. Thw he raw diet wasnt an issue and he looks fantastic and is just a good ol boy. He's also so playful, when he was scared to be before. And omg he is the perfect dog. Sure he has his little issues as a rescue. Adopted dogs MIGHT have their issues (and they don't always) but they make up for it in being the most attentive and sweet dogs.

Wow, full circle with Avalon. A Borzoi Breeder once told me that dogs come and go on your life they are needed and that she swears she's had dogs "come back" I don't know about any of that but I appreciate the poetry of it. I'm excited to see Celes grow!

After more than 20 years I expect a Borzoi again. She/he has yet to be born but is already growing. He joins Wodan (the Grey), Sunna (the Iggy lady), Tino (the Scottish Deerhound) and Vinny (the Whippet). I'm really looking forward to it. It will (or better is already) a strange mix for many people. Why not all the same breed? But they get along very well and they all have their nice, typical character. And yes: having a walk with our Tino and Sunna together makes people laugh. A 100 lbs deerhound next to a 6 lbs Iggy looks funny. Thank you for you videos. He/she will fill the gap after our Afghan Hound Odin passed away 1 year ago.

Oh... there's only about 11 registered Borzoi breeders in all of Australia! The entire country! We don't get Borzoi rescues here.. we get a lot of Staghounds though.. that's what my old dog, Perry was. Cheers from Australia!!

I’m glad you got another dog. It’s really hard to lose a family member and they are but this honours them. We did that after losing a wonderful rescue. The dog we have now is completely different and was and still is a wac-a-mole. Good for you. Fortunately he’s a rough collie so not so big. Can’t handle big dogs now but did at one time have a huge malamute of over 100lbs. Collies are distant cousins to Borzois. Good luck.❤️👍🏻🖖🏻💪🏻🐾🐾🐾

Lost my Besinji Whippet mix last June rather suddenly (she was 14 and blind) but still it wasn’t expected. I was lost and my other dog was lost and I kept looking at her places and reaching to pet her instinctually but grabbing air. Accidentally found a puppy that looks exactly like her that oddly was born on my birthday like 5 states away. She acts the same, looks the same, lays the same and made my world feel whole again! Point is sometimes it’s just divine intervention with finding a dog.

I've been reading/watching on Borzois after setting the idea of getting one on stone and I just burst out crying when I learned Esper was gone I'm sure she was very loved and had a good life, but coping with the loss of such a presence is something that never gets easier to me My heart goes out to you

I guess that's because nobody in their right mind gets rid of their borzoi unless something really bad happens. (And if something happened to me, her breeder would take Rika back without hesitation and gladly.)

She is gorgeous! I have a question. I spoke to a breeder that said they couldn't sell to me since we don't have a fenced yard because Borzoi are incredibly private and won't go to the bathroom on a leash unless completely necessary. Is that really a thing? I can see how having a yard is a good thing, but the potty issue- that seems really odd. Would love your thoughts.

that is REALLY weird, i've heard denial for fencing because borzois can JUMP and always are a risk for chasing something, but... my zois crap everywhere (sometimes in trees), we also lived with Esper and Ora in downtown LA and they had no problem pooping on walks through busy busy streets.

I know personally my borzoi doesn't go to the bathroom on the leash because she insists on running around before doing to do. Privacy seems like an odd reason for a fenced yard lol. But a fenced yard is definitely a must!! They need the security and they can also jump far higher than we give them credit for. My breeder wanted video of my backyard and fence height measurements before she "ok'd" me lol.
