The happy miracle of Suzie Collier is that she recognized her son's talent, and was content to nurture it in the most non-judgemental, non-directive way possible. She was the professional orchestral musician and revered teacher, and yet she trusted her son to find his own path with music. One of the few instruments Jacob does not play with ease is the violin, but that never caused her a moment of regret. Not all talented parents would be like that.

Paul Mina Storm I actually think Jacob has a very pure, crisp timbre and what amazes me most about his voice is it’s range. He has a lovely, warm bass register all the way up to treble. His treble might be falsetto, I’m not sure. But I think it sounds lovely anyway. Besides, he is credited with being the most talented and versatile composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist of all time. He has achieved more in a decade than you will in your lifetime. Give the man a break. People like you, with the audacity to criticise the greats wherever possible, are so shallow it’s actually unbelievable.

As a musician, sometimes one of the hardest things to do is to play something unexpected. Listening to Jacob, it's one unexpected chord after the other for minutes on end, and yet it all sounds perfectly in place. That's an amazing trick to pull off.

I love watching this video just for seeing how the audience - enthralled and utterly silent up until then - recognise Suzie the moment she walks out (without introduction!) and cheer so loudly, AND how they fall silent again so quickly to listen to them play together. As someone who has learned and grown so, so much because of Suzie's kindness, it's so heartwarming to see how this crowd of strangers seems to love her as much as I do.
