Hello, thanks for the comparison! I haven't tried the SSL, but it's always intrigued me. I’m currently using an Audient ID24 for recording nylon string guitar, and the quality of its preamps surpasses that of a dedicated one I have, the ART PRO MPA II with Mullard tubes (which I can access through the inserts on the ID24). I’m using an AKG C414 and a KM184. I've done a lot of testing, and in the end, I’m recording with the preamps of the Audient. Additionally, I think its mixer and routing capabilities are excellent. I purchased the ssl2 + mkii , for separate headphones and volume control for recording sessions. I also have a 500 series vocal chain bypassing the mic pre. The 2 separate headphones are awesome for my use as a recording engineer.

Audient still better for me. Especially with the send returns and adat io . much more useful for studio expansion down the line

I got the SSL 2+ for the Music Production and mastering with my analog gear and the UAD Volt 476 for the my Vocals.....thats the best way to go in my opinion...

Should I get the Audient if I’m tracking and mixing with outboard gear? I daisy chain an external preamp, 1176 clone and 2A clone together. Would there be a noticeable difference? My guess is no but I figure I’d ask

Both interfaces can bypass the pres so you’ll be good either way. Maybe buy based on whether you think you might ever need MIDI vs ADAT

Has SSL fixed the almost double roundtrip latency it had, compared to the competition?

I wasn’t aware of the issue but in the latency test I did in this video it scored better than the Audient

@JacobDarkOfficial Hey, there. When i commented, i was at the begginning of your video. I did see that... I wonder of it was just the person who tested it(Julian Krause; if you are into audio tests, etc, you probably heard of him) or if they fixed it with a firmware update. I tipically buy Focusrites but this ssl + 2 is amazing.

Another solid review, Jacob. SSL appears to win on the specs, but...I liked the sound of the id24's mic pres over the SSL. "Smoother" sounding to me, which I would prefer on vocals. SSL sounded a bit sterile to me. Hope you are feeling decent these days. Thanks for your efforts.

Whats the difference between a audio interface and a amp. I wanna use my dy 1990 headphones for music and gaming so i need it to sound very good and clear.

An amp is only going to have headphone outputs while an interface will have a built in amp and connections for a microphone, studio monitors and more via USB.

The iD44 is another price bracket but should be fantastic if it meets your needs.

SSL all day long! Preamps are best in class in this price range. You also get real Neutrik connectors and Alps pots on the SSL. No interface in this price range gives you that. Everybody else uses the cheaper Amphenol connectors and generic pots.

Looking to master and want direct ins, can you or anyone confirm that the ssl line in bypasses the pre? From all sources it says the line still uses the mic pre as the gain knob control line as well?

The both need Auto Gain. My PreSonus HD2 has it, and the less expensive PreSonus ES2 & 4 have Auto Gain and 75db of gain.

Auto gain is nice for sure but as long as you’re around -10 or -12dB or so you’re good. 75 dB of gain is impressive
