Well after many many attempts and lots of learning. We finally put a giant tuna in the boat! A whopping 108"! I have a hard time finding words to express what this fish means to me! I'm speechless..

Wow what a catch 108" ! That was great! You have the right boat for it too.I miss thoes days. I first started boating back in 60s out of my grandfather's back yard on the Long Island sound when everybody had wood boats. Now I jusy wish I was out there. That water was like glass. A good day of fishing is better than anything In the world.

The hootin’ and hollerin’ is fantastic! Just a group of guys having a helluva time. I’ve absolutely no desire to go fishing for fish that’re bigger than I am, but that’s down to the fact that noodling for catfish was fun until I was shoulder deep into a really pissed off cat. So no desire to even think about going for yet another gigantic fish, but it somehow feels like I just caught my first tuna.

Your boat is AWESOME! I'm a girl born on the water. I cook on crab boats, and I love Alaska. Before red crab season opens, we did a 24 hour halibut season. Long line with octopus on the hooks.. when we were prospecting i pulled a "Butt" just about the same size as yours, all by myself! 😅😅 That was dinner! Nothing tastes better than fresh caught Halibut deep fried in beer batter, home made fries...Mmmmm good. I'd LOVE to go on a tuna fishing trip...I love watching your life!

What a great video. I don’t eat seafood or go fishing, yet I am really enjoying your videos. This one in particular was great to see how happy and excited you all got over catching the tuna. During a visit to Japan a while back I went to a tuna auction and it was my first time seeing how huge they are. They also had a fish market where local fishermen would sell their daily catches, not just to restaurants or supermarkets. I learned a lot.

Wow! The magnificent fighting tuna will feed so many people. The tuna had such a strong will to live, just like the will to live that humans have. This is part of the bitter side of life, that a living creature dies to feed people....unless a person is vegan and then the alternative is live and let live. What an adventure it was, seeing you and all of your mates win the prize of that huge beautiful tuna, your reward for your challenge. Congratulations! You are stewards of the earth, responsibly taking what you need and leaving the rest of the sea life to live and prosper, to be caught at another time. Safe harbour to you all.

I didn't see this question in the comments, Why do you tow the fish in the water after you catch it to "cool it down"? Is that meaning cool it down from the fight so the endorphins and stuff don't taint the meat? I understand cool down in similar sense, (in my mind), of cooling down a horse after a hard ride and things, so their muscles don't cramp up and stuff. Is that a correct correlation to make?

Halibut will yield about 55% meat from live weight. I used to fish the derby’s in Alaska back in the 80’s. A good 36 hour opener would be 100,000 lbs dressed weight on the 58 foot steel hull I fished on.

I've always wanted to go tuna fishing, they're so fast and powerful. I'd like to catch an albacore and a bluefin. As a landlubber (West Virginia), I'm scared of the ocean, but we go to the Outer Banks and shark/ray fish in the surf once in a while and that's pretty interesting. I wind up cutting my line a lot when I don't know what something is since so much stuff can kill you in the ocean and I don't know what all of it is, haha! You guys are probably scared of bears and stuff that doesn't really bother us, funny how you adapt to what you see/experience. You'd probably love the trout/catfishing in the mountain rivers and Ohio around here. Caught an 80-lb blue cat female full of eggs a few years back on 15-lb test, THAT was a fight, haha! Also a 6-lb smallmouth on an ultralite with 2-lb test in the New River last summer, I thought I hooked Jaws, haha!
