It’s crazy how tough it is to read our Bible, but so easy to scroll for hours on our phone.
@username00009 Жыл бұрын
Three things have, over many months, made it easy for me to read my Bible: 1) Finding the How to Faith a Life channel and realizing that perfectionism was stopping me from making consistent progress 2) Buying an interleaved Bible to mark up with notes, highlights, etc. 3) Studying Ephesians following the direction given by Kay Arthur in her KZbin series, starting with color coding (highlight or underline) every reference to the author in blue and to the audience in orange.

reading ur bible shoudn't be a chore, it should be something enjoyable and something to look forward to. jesus loves you!
@username00009 Жыл бұрын
In my experience, the chore was figuring out HOW to read the Bible effectively. Simply reading it felt like I was doing it wrong - as a lifelong avid reader, I knew I was missing out on all sorts of background information. Even something as simple as needing to research the Biblical definitions of “saints” derailed me because I knew it wasn’t being used in the same way as the RCC. A Bible dictionary helped, but not entirely; I finally found the definition I knew I was missing in a book entirely about Ephesians. Basically, I’ve learned that I get derailed by a lot of questions 😀 A simple solution would be to keep a list of my questions, trusting that the Holy Spirit will lead me to the answers as I continue (and he has, even when I’m not actively looking for them).
@bonnieleighton8280 Жыл бұрын
As an older person, I think I may need to do this type of challenge myself although not for long as long. I know some of the people are saying that reading the Bible should be enjoyable and it is, but it is so hard to work it in when you work full-time and have a family. I appreciate what you did and your honesty that it was not easy.
@HeavenlyWarriorx Жыл бұрын
When the Holy Spirit works it’s on His time. Could be 3 hours of worship. 10 mins in the word. Or even stopping to help someone out and spread the Gospel. That’s time with God
@gloriack7976 Жыл бұрын
Should… yes. Sometimes obedience comes before the enjoyable experience. Willful obedience simply means doing something you know you just do without emotion attached. It’s the right thing to do, we’re commanded to do it, but we might not “want” to do it. Roman’s 7 and 8 speaks about Paul’s struggling with this. I tell my kids all the time “This isn’t something that you want to do and that’s ok. But obedience has nothing to do with emotion and everything to do with being faithful to God.” And yes I’m preaching to myself every time I say that to them lol

Just reading the title of this video encouraged me to put my phone down and I’m so grateful for it! I gave up social media a few years ago and came to the conclusion recently that I’ve become addicted to KZbin. So now I’m swapping out some of that time to study God’s word. I’m better for it.

I recently did my own challenge where for 7 days I cut out all social media, watching tv, music. I then replaced all of that with only watching Christian movies or non-secular music and did some of my hobbies and man it was hard! This was such an inspiring video for me. I have been reading my Bible almost every day since August 2018 and have managed to read the entirety of the Bible twice now, but...I have started to feel like those fifteen minutes each morning isn't cutting it anymore and that I'm not reflecting on the word as much as I need to. I got used to reading it daily, but I feel like I haven't devoted time to reflect on what I have read for...the last few months or so because things in my life have gotten busier and I am dealing with many personal challenges as well, including grief and feeling a little stuck in life right now because of the many different and rapid changes that swept through my life between 2018 and today. This video helped me see that I need to change my approach to reading the word. It's one thing to take time to read it every day and another to really study and get the most out of what you're reading. Thank you so much for making this. It really showed me the importance of just investing more time into studying God's word. For me, creating more opportunities in my day to read and study will really help, and seeing this video gave me some great ideas on how to challenge myself to get the most that I can out of my Bible reading this year so that I can heal and spread God's word to others. Thank you so much and God bless you.

Many of my friends talk about what they can give up to put more Jesus' time in their schedule. I encourage them that we should be putting Jesus in everything we do. He should be your reason. There was a time when I despised work. My counselor told me to look to our Father. In that, he told me to ask Christ what He had planned for me. Instead of looking at work as a stressful place, I started to see it as a place to connect with Christ and share His love!

The other one will read everyday too and when he hits a weekend he'll get off work Friday and he will sit in his study and read all the way to Sunday night (of course stopping to sleep). I wonder how different this challenge would have been if you had read Old Testament instead of New Testament. A lot of people focus so much on the New Testament forgetting that 3/4 of the Bible is OT. The letters are SO dense and full of argumentation. Much of the OT is story and show God's people relating to him through narrative. I'd love to see you just read all the way through Genesis or Exodus or Samuel or Kings. Food for thought for the next challenge!
