Nice video. You did a good job getting her running. One downfall of these vintage power reel mowers, is that they'll practically pull your arm off when mowing. And, they dictate the speed of your walking when using them. But, i think have give a good cut.

True. It drives like a tank. I've considered altering the throttle control for this very reason.

still have the travel wheels

Nice video! If you still have this, would you be able to tell me where the wires go on the back side of the engine? In the manuals, it appears there are two wires coming from the magneto, one to the stop button, and another to the TCI unit. Would you be able to confirm?

Boonerp.. When you back lapped.. looked like the reel was moving clockwise? I always thought you need to backlap counterclockwise. Nice mower.. I have a late 70's PGM 22. love it.
@Boonerp Жыл бұрын
You're correct. Counterclockwise does result in a sharper blade. Tried it off camera with positive results. Thanks.

Couple of dumb questions......what was the compound on the reel for? Also why did you remove the wheel at the end? Cool machine
@Boonerp2 жыл бұрын
There are no dumb questions. The compound is valve grinding compound. A gritty paste used to sharpen the reel against the cutting bar. The wheels are for transport. Removing the wheels lowers the mower allowing the drive roller to contact the ground propelling the mower forward.

Have you ever have the pull cord not recoil back and stayed stuck with the cord out?
@Boonerp Жыл бұрын
Sounds like an issue with the recoil spring. Perhaps this may help kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp7SZ6KPhK99arc.

How do you sharpen the blade? Can you make a video about it?
@Boonerp Жыл бұрын
The link below is the time stamped portion of the sharpening process. As mentioned in previous comments sharpening anti-clockwise yields greater results using a drill to spin the reel. Thanks for the comment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKCwk4F7nLCnh7s

Would this mower be worth $125 running? I am picking 2 up at that price both run and what model would i look up for parts? I cant really find anything for these
@Boonerp2 жыл бұрын
Depends on condition and frequency of use. Check the wear of the reel & bedknives. If they're excessively worn, I'd pass on it. Parts are difficult to find.

Where do you think I can get a carb for one of these? 2 cycle Jacobson

Have you tried these guys? www.jacobsen.com/parts. Could be a good place to start.

Did you have trouble with the throttle and if so what parts?
@Boonerp Жыл бұрын
Not really. I just cleaned the carburator. The original throttle cable (wire) is troublesome as it's difficult to adjust quickly whilst turning. Might have to change the wire to cable.

How was the quality of cut with that mower?

Fantastic. Very little fraying.

Definitely NOT a 1950's Jacobsen. Thats a Subaru Robin EC/EY10 engine. Its 1980s. I've got that same engine, a 98cc two stroke in a Savage minibike. Jacobsen called it a "984" for 98cc 4 hp. Now you know.
@NeighborhoodGolfPro645 ай бұрын
It could still be a 1950s unit with the 80s engine. They didn't really change much
@life_of_riley885 ай бұрын
@@NeighborhoodGolfPro64 That's possible, though the unit I took my engine out of looked exactly the same from a mower perspective. This is actually a "greens mower" used for mowing putting greens. Mine came from hole 8 on the famous Pebble Beach golf course.
