If you didn't meet the deadline of specific task. For example in Discover Phase you predicted to implement Role Based Access Control would take 2 days but it took you 4 days to implement.. What happen in that case? Charge extra?

thank you so much for this. i keep arguing with my clients because the keep changing there minds and im soo fucking frustrated because it's a waste of time and energy redoing all the work. and the budget is soo low. i never know that other web developers do it like this. thank you, thank you thank you thank you thank you..... thank you 1000x.

What happens if you can't meet the features you signed the contract for? and do you charge your clients for the scale of the project, or how many hours it took to build it?

Can you please set it up as a multi-app system; meaning that you can build more than one app within one Laravel instance. Like an app/blog, app/forum, app/etc , not mixed, but in seperate folders.

Stupid question maybe but ....How do you get clients comfortable paying for a discovery phase when they aren’t sure if they are even going to like your final price at the end of it ?
@JacurtisTutorials6 жыл бұрын
Good question. It depends on the size of the project. Usually the discovery phase is after they have initially decided to hire me, and I would only do it on larger projects (over 1 month or so). It helps temper expectations and it is good for everyone. It does require convincing sometimes, but I have never lost a job because I demanded it. I am usually clear up front that it is part of the process. Many clients like the idea that I am trying to make sure we are both on the same page before continuing forward. I have only had a few clients resistant to it and I have promised to refund them for lost time if it doesn't end up working out. Although I have never had to do it. If it's a large enough project it is worth the risk. I have had large projects that don't do discovery and it has led to mis-understandings each time. So now i simply would rather lose the job, or even the lost time during discovery by refunding them, then getting 6 months into a project and running into a world-changing issue that was unexpected that we would have cleared up during discovery.

Got a job as a full stack software engineer, but they required I know laravel. I powered through your blog Playlist in a weekend, coming out with blog.johnfedoruk.ca (and now I'm lead on the backend - thanks!). I decided to add an access control list (roles) to the blog so non-contributors could sign up and comment. However, I implement my own schema and middleware for this because everybody else touts Sentinal and Sentry, overlooking the fact that these are not open source solutions. I'll be following this tutorial, and hopefully guiding lost souls in the comments. I'm largely impartial as how or what you build in this series. However I would push for us stick to open source third party solutions. Anyways, looking forward to the series. Thanks a ton, man! john
