Yeah , I m from kharagpur and I m ex student of k v iit kharagpur, and in iit kharagpur, ragings are done brutally ,, and am in CU 2nd year in current , Ragings are prohibited in Cu but if you go through past records of JU you will always find many such caste of raging, this year only i visited near jadavpur and met one of my cousin brother and he said that seniors harass them a lot in hostel , and rule them with their own made dress codes!! Tired of it my brother left that hostel and now staying in pg but in distance near Garia .

Everyone is pointing out the atrocities done by seniors, but nobody is pointing out the mental torture and discrimination unleashed upon the students coming from interior parts of the state and from a weaker socio economic background,by the faculty members in such colleges. During my college days, I have seen with my own eyes and have protested against discrimination towards students who are from Bengali medium schools, and those who can't speak English fluently. And needless to say that i faced the burnt of that during my internal exam evaluations for protesting against it. There is a culture of elitism prevailing in such campuses, and it trickles down from the top from the faculty and administrative bodies. And the seniors are following that culture with increased brutality. That is the root cause, you have to go deep in order to solve the problem. The faculties are culturally rotten, and the Administration is unable to change anything. Where from these 19 yo and 20 year olds learning this toxic culture you think? Their poor, barely educated parents are teaching them to go and harass or discriminate against juniors you think? It's the professors and the people working in administration. It's systematic cultural toxicity dashed with elitism that is being instilled in these impressionable brains by these so called faculties who can also be called imbeciles. That's the real root cause of the problem.
