16:00 I love my dad and he says he loves me but when I’m around him it’s impossible for me not to hate him for what he did to me when I was a child. He gave me a pathetic apology. I don’t know how to forgive him without feeling like I’m condoning his abuse. Long story short, my dad was an abusive drunk. Even at the age of 5 I can remember him calling me names like worthless and asshole. He’d punch me hard in my arms or slap my head to “make me a man.” It’s obvious that he never wanted to be a father. What bothers me the most is that he’s 75 years old and isn’t going to live much longer...and he is never going to be even half the father I needed. PLEASE HELP ME. I DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE PEACE WITH THIS. 🥺

+1 to Michael's suggestion, but also you sincerely have to be okay with the fact that you might never feel 100% over it. But the more you forgive the whole situation and just understand that you have to allow life to happen as it will, the more likely it is that it won't remain the forefront of your mind. Don't constantly ask yourself "did I forgive myself?" or think "I should be over this by now"- don't rush any part of it. The more you consider the situation, the more alive it'll stay in your head. Almost a, "accept it and move on" but not in a harsh, quick way. The acceptance and moving on it all automatic, you can't think "alright I am now going to move on", it happens on it's own without your mind and if you try to use your mind and thoughts to get past it, chances are you'll end up just forcing yourself to fixate on it even more. In fact, in buddhism/taosim, negative events/"trauma" are all considered positive things, because it ensures that you can identify your mind and it's propogation of the ideas it feels are bad. If you were just always ignorantly content and never felt any real low, you'd have a much more difficult time identifying "the thinker" in your head because it's so much more subtle. As soon as you notice the voice in your head telling you about your problems, just notice the emptiness that your "mind" needs to speak- for there to be the inner noise of "thoughts", their needs to be inner silence for that noise to arise out of in the first place. Silence that has always been there (what do baby's thoughts sound like?) . Didn't expect to start rambling about enlightenment, but yeah Ima stop here. Honestly you should sincerely read the power of now by Eckhart Tolle (bobby has mentioned it a few times as well as Chris Distefano and Pete Holmes if you know them) and respond to me with any questions you have about it. OH and also, if you have access to psychedelics, you should google microdosing. A lot of people are having success with it helping them with anxiety/depression because it seems to just really subtley help you remain present/perceptive. Good luck!

I'm really grateful that Ms. M had the courage to share her situation. I'm 21 and most likely just failed the last two classes I needed to get my associates degree, and the guilt of not capitalizing on the opportunity I've been given has effectively halted my life. I am obsessive with becoming great at the things i love, and despite that I also feel little hope when it comes to my future.
