I spend more time taking gloves off to do something than putting them back on to protect my hands. Once your hands toughen up with calluses there is no need for gloves. I also would rather be wet from rain than wet from sweat wearing rain gear. Thanks for sharing another good one. Blessings!

Question does the calculated board feet match the actual board feet you saw out of the log exactly or is it usually more or actually less??

board feet contains wood that you won't be able to use due to knots and other imperfections. The number is a way to "estimate" the usefulness of the wood.

I'd lose a glove or two or three to the bailing *wire* on tight 100 lb bales back in my youth and you wouldn't see them back until the hay wagon was empty and the elevator was turned off. Ah, the LT-15. My favourite log working bandsaw! About 4 years ago, my older brother was taking 2 adult-ed woodworking classes. He dragged me off to one of them. There was an LT-15 there, and I volunteered to be the mechanic. The teacher had a rule, that friends of students could visit once. Teacher dragged my brother off to one side, and said that that rule does NOT apply to me. A year later, the teacher was at a local (best in the state) woodworking tool and lumber store. He heard they need a mechanic. He tells my brother, brother tells me. I get that teacher to put in a good word for me, and he does. Next day, I walk into the store, and the owner tells me that I got the job, just on what the teacher said. All because of me working on that Woodmiser. (Oh, he now has 2 of them.) steve

I wear fully enclosed goggles but dust and chips still find their way around the corners (like bees) when you're running a router (and I don't mean wifi). Glasses would be totally useless with shop tools. I've even worn a face sheild (with goggles) if it's a particularly nasty job like a table saw because goggles don't protect against a forhead shot. After a while you have so much gear on that you look like an explorer on an alien planet - wait... we pretty much are! One thing that I keep to a minimum is gloves because a tool can snag them.

Yea when I worked at a flooring plant I got a splinter one time and thought i got it out. Well I didnt' get it all out and I had a lump on my finger for about 8 months. I got another job and it sometimes involved grabbing rope and pulling and my finger would hurt soo damn bad every time I would grab a rope and pull. I finally got fed up and went digging in that lump on my finger and I eventually squeezed out a splinter about 1/8th of an inch. It was such a relief getting it out I couldn't believe it.
