What's amazing to me is how expensive pure green jade can be. They can easily go over the cost of diamonds and precious metals.

Right?! There are actually a surprising number of stones & minerals that sell for more than diamonds & precious metals!

Do you teach classes? My grandpa used to make jewelry from rocks. But he passed away. I wish I had learned more from him.
@RockOnRickMaritta2 жыл бұрын
That's cool that this connects you to your grandpa ☺️❤️ Rick doesn't teach jewelry classes anymore. Any classes he has coming up will be posted in our Facebook group, Utah Rock Collectors. But there are a lot of tutorials on KZbin and FB.

@@RockOnRickMaritta I think it would be cool to sit down with someone and and what kid of rocks I have. My grandpa called one piece Wyoming jade and now I’m curious.

Can you talk about happy camp jade- vesuvianote and idocrase and grossular garnet- because i have a family member that had a mine that the chinese would buy from and they bought it as jade- all the way up until world war 2
@RockOnRickMaritta10 ай бұрын
And it's still sold as jade. I've not heard the term Happy Camp but definitely vesuvianite and idocrase and garnet are sold as jade, along with other things- I bought a talc carving in Korea that was sold as "Korean jade," for example. Of course I knew it wasn't - the guy was pretty mad when I turned it over & scratched the bottom with a coin 😄 I didn't care, it was a big beautiful ship carving & cost, like, $5 🤷

Is Siberian jade actually Jadeite, or is it nephrite?

I want to pick your brain on happy camp jade ?

This is Rick. I must admit I don't have a lot of first hand experience with Happy Camp Jade. I've collect jades at several of the locations in Northern California but not there.

This is great, but very wrong about Nephrite. It IS a mineral. Actinolite and Trenolite are end members of a solid solution series, actinolte containing iron and in Tremolite it is mainly replaced by Magnesium. They are essentially the same mineral otherwise, hence Nephrite is not a ‘mixture’ of two minerals. Nephrite is just a very compacted version.
