the speed of that beat is a UK thing..I love how they did that beat, its a grime thing (not just grime ) but grime is at 140 bpm...There is a connection to hip hop via some of the rhyming but musically it comes from Garage and Dance hall and also drum n bass/jungle

Grime came from dance music influenced by reggae dancehall essentially. When Chicago drill hit the uk it took influence from grime. Its why you get sharp claps and distorted basslines in UK drill

grime peeps to check out Wretch32, Ghetts, Kano all 3 are amazing MC's and very grime in terms of most of their beats and roots. All 3 of these imo are better than Dave, I also prefer Jafro to Dave. For me Dave makes great songs but if we are talking MC's there are many UK MC's that 1) are technically much better, or 2) speak even more facts (Akala and Lowkey springs to mind) Dave , Jafro, Kamikaze and maybe Ocean Wisdom are some of the best young bucks though Wretch 32 might be good if you like the real shit , imo his wordplay is the greatest I have heard...and I really mean any MC, US or UK, plus he has many different topics in tunes,and a lot of real knowledge being sprayed out in rhyme. He is one of those that paints with words but also each line connects to the next or the line after, with the meaning. He does some slower and faster paced beats as well, his tracs are art as well,some of his songs are deep AF Kano is also a good person to check out as far as being complete (content/mic skill/great tracks/great freestyles), possibly the most universally ear friendly of the UK artists from the grime scene. As far as grime tunes he makes great bangers, high energy stuff, but freestyle , he spreads wings and soars, maybe less about message and more about feel than Wretch Ghetts/Ghetto is the raw battle sound (they all come from the same scene but the other 2 have more orthodox styles) this guy has the craziest use of odd rhyming , meaning he dont just rhyme the end of each line the 3rd word will rhyme wit the 2nd from the next and the 5th from the line after that all coming together in a final line that rhymes it at the end. He moves laterally with meaning of his word with word play like Wretch does , and whilst maybe not being as good at story telling as wretch, has schemes that are so nuts it takes several listens sometimes more to catch all the double meanings and meaning shifts. I imagine if being an MC and battling being like "i have no idea what is going on...but I know Im getting bodied"
