A nice send off to Mic, but the rest of the episode I have trouble watching as it sentences a man to death that was pschiatrically proven to be suffering from a mental disorder. But because it aired in January 2000, it wouldn't be another two years until the Supreme Court (in a 6 to 3 ruling) would determine that the death pentaly used in cases against a person sufering mental illness was in violation of the Eighth Ammendent: Cruel and Unusual Punishment. Specifically... "On June 20, 2002, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Atkins v. Virginia that executing people with intellectual disabilities violated the Eighth Amendment prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment, overruling its Penry v. Lynaugh decision in 1989." Before the shooting the defendant had gone to the military's mental health counselor for help, but instead of help he was told to "be a duck and let the water flow off of him." It was only after the shooting did he have a sitdown with a psychiatrist who determined he was mentally ill and needed medication and probably a medical discharge from the Corps. But it was still two years before the Supreme Court would make the ruling, so technically for its time the episode did nothing wrong with its final outcome. But Mac's closing argument wasn't about mental health and Rabb villified the defendant as a monster and killing him was what separated the rest of us from monsters like him. The two redeeming factors is Mac's promise to be there for him during his execution as well as the look of defeat on Rabb's face at the start of this clip, that shows while he did his job and won - deep down inside he feels that the jury made the wrong decision. The guy needed help, not the lethal injection. If this case was tried two years later Mac's defense would probably be different and the jury would have reached a different verdict.

Too bad Trevor Goddard had such a troubled life outside of his role on JAG. JAG was a great jig for him, and he portrayed a significant character that added to the story lines. He was missed.

That particular episode was few years before his death. It wasn't the last time we saw Goddard. He came back later. Actor passed away in 2003. So that was 2 years after last time we saw him.

Trevor Goddard was okay,even though he was a semi-regular on JAG for 3 years. It was fitting that the song Waltzing Mathilda was played as his character went back to Australia after his extended time on an exchange program with JAG was over.

Those 3 spinoffs of JAG & maybe the reboot of Hawaii Five-0 should've explained what has happened to Mic Brumby after he returned home to Australia to rejoin the Royal Australia Navy after he broke up with Sarah Mackenzie before there were to be married?

It would be interesting if there were an episode of Hawaii Five-0 in which the team gets help from a Naval Officer from Australia on a special case and that he tells them that he was a friend of Mic Brumby and that he tells them that when he returned home after his time on an exchange program at JAG was over,the people from JAG Headquarters sings the song Waltzing Mathilda as he takes his leave of them from the pub.

In today's military drinking is heavily discouraged.
@cmm55422 жыл бұрын
While on duty or getting intoxicated so you're hungover on duty, yes. My dad was in the military for 21 years. No one objects to a couple beers with friends off duty to relax. Unless of course you have other, perfectly legitimate but non-military reasons not to drink at all.
@Garbanzo8842 жыл бұрын
@@cmm5542 Not today. In today's Zero-Defects military, one DUI or one drunk-in-publc and your career is over. Even at large military bases like Offutt AFB or others, the O-Clubs and NCO Clubs are gone. I was in the USAF 40 years ago and more crap got solved with a few NCOs having beers writing on the back of a napkin.
@cmm55422 жыл бұрын
@@Garbanzo884 As I said, intoxication isn't encouraged. But you don't have to be a teetotaler to join the military! Drinking isn't the same as getting drunk. I get a drink once a week with my friends but have never been drunk in my life. Are you saying the miltary wouldn't take me if I signed up because of that? I haven't seen anyone get drunk so far in JAG, does it happen in later episodes?
