man- what springs did you use? I see the Cigar is slammed way down. This is great showcase of how to keep these f&!^@# things in tune

The original Japanese ones. One finally broke at a gig with 15+ years of hard use on it. Currently it has another set of the same and a 66 Mustang tailplate as an experiment. Right now Im trying to learn the geometry of this system at a science level.....I have some crazy ideas.
@JimmyGallowayGuitar10 ай бұрын
@creepingnet you would make good money re-engineering it. There are no aftermarket mods. Mastery / Staytrem have tweaked the JM design so you could tweak this Dynamic tremolo design. I see you totally have the cigar all the way back. Mine won't float, and the springs won't zero out. Super frustrating

By the way I set it up. - #2 pencil lead in the nut, nut is totally clean, strings slide through easily - lubricated pivot points on tremolo, at that time I was using gun slide grease or vaseline, these days I use auto brake silicone lubricant - Bridge posts are jammed with 3m Scotch tape - very very tiny piece. The adhesive+plastic works great to gum up the threads but not so much they remain unajustable - I use Ernie Ball Paradigm strings these days, at the time this was filmed I was using Fender Bullet .009-.042 gauge. - Tail Bar set to angle back about 30-45 degrees - Strings wrapped neatly around capstans, turns low to high = 3, 3, 4, 7, full string, full string - I don't tie or bend them, I use split shaft tuners - strings properly stretched along their length, then a lot of bar dives to get them to "equalibrium" in stretched out and the range of the mustang vibrato to keep them in tune. I now own two guitars with these trems, this one (95 Jag-Stang with EMGs) and a heavily modified 1971 Fender Music Master setup like a Cobain Mustang with different pickups.

I'm surprised this trem wasn't more successful for fender. Seems capable of doing same thing 6 screw type but more stable tuning wise.

@captinclutch1987 Nope, just a set of TonePros Kluson with the sealed-gear style mounts as I had Schaller non-locking sealed gear tuners on it for a few years after the originals wore out.

@captinclutch1987 Yeah though earlier this year I rebuilt the whole vibrato unit and gave it an overhaul as this guitar has been doing double duty in 2 rock bands plus a lot of time at open jam night at Hayley's and Flight's bars lately. The bar still floats, I just got done doing about 4-5 sets tonight with a bunch of local musicians at open jam. And no probs with the questions I could talk about this guitar all day.

@captinclutch1987 Pinch harmonics are pretty easy on most guitars for me. Bought the guitar modified with the EMG's but I added the Pi2 Phase inverter to the neck position switch and turned the bridge position switch into a pickup selector. Also put in a no-load tone control and a treble bypass on the volume, I can emulate a lot of guitars on this one, that's why it's my main.

do you remeber what gauge strings you used on the trem?
@creepingnet4 жыл бұрын
Back then I used Fender Bullet .009-.040 stainless or .009-.042 gauge nickel. These days I'm still playing the same guitar, but I'm using Ernie Ball Paradigm .009-.042 gauge strings since Fender discontinued the bullet end strings and The Paradigms are even more sturdy.

@@creepingnetis this different than a Mustang vibrato and are the interchangeable?
@creepingnet Жыл бұрын
@@bluwng Same unit. Fender used to use a lot of "marketing names" for their features. The Mustang vibrato was known as the "Dynamic Fender Vibrato" originally, stamped on the plate. People have probably forgotten since the newer Squier Mustangs don't have the name stamped on it, and a lot of the new Mustangs dont have a vibrato (which to me makes them Duo Sonics but the guidelines are prob different now).

Jesus that is so high off the body how is that even useable!?
@creepingnet8 жыл бұрын
In my case, I have large hands...one can get around that by putting the bar in a vice and carefully bending it over. That's how the original trem bar my Jag-Stang had was configured by me. More recently I've gone to less spring tension because I'm using a modified tremolo plate (60 degree knife edge). One thing I found odd with the modern Mustang vibratio units, is that the holes for the tailbar pivot screws are not far enough forward, and that removes some range, and they are not beveled so that's where the tuning issues come from. Maybe I'll make a new video in the future on it when I install a Mustang tremolo on something else or buy a VM Mustang or something. If you move them forward and vice-grip the bar down a bit, you get a feel and range similar to a Kahler flatmount without all the cam/locking mumbo jumbo and need to use a hex-wrench to tune down.
@5urg3x8 жыл бұрын
It's pretty cool that you can make it flutter now though. I'd love to try one of these...I've never played a Mustang or a Jag Stang...I think I'd probably like the Talman series better though. That would be a sick idea for a guitar...A custom Talman that is JagStang like, maybe with a Synchronizr tremolo or something.
