Jagannath Temple in Ranchi, India, is a 17th-century shrine dedicated to Lord Jagannath. Constructed by Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo, the king of Barkagarh Jagannathpur, it was completed on December 25, 1691. Situated about 10 km from the main town, the temple is perched atop a small hillock.
Much like the renowned Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, this temple shares a similar architectural style, though it is smaller in scale. An annual fair and Rath Yatra, akin to the one in Puri, are held at this temple in the month of Aashaadha. This event draws thousands of devotees, both tribal and non-tribal, from Ranchi and neighboring villages and towns, celebrated with great enthusiasm.
Most visitors either climb the stairs or take a vehicle to reach the hilltop temple. In 1691, the temple was desecrated and vandalized by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
The temple collapsed on August 6, 1990, but was reconstructed and reopened on February 8, 1992.
