JAGDTIGERS vs M36 JACKSON - Operation Nordwind | Gates of Hell

An M36 is not a tank, but a tank destroyer (technically, a Motor Gun Carriage), essentially an M10 tank destroyer up-gunned with a 90mm anti-tank gun. In contrast to a real tank, it has an open-topped turret, thin armor, and lacks a co-axial machine gun. The proper way to deal with them is not with a Jagdtiger, but by dropping mortar bombs and artillery shells around them, which will kill or wound the turret crews, forcing the tank destroyers to withdraw. If they stay put, their crews will be unable to shoot effectively, and the Jagdtigers will pick them off, one by one. In contrast to the M36, the Jagdtiger was very heavily armored.

Germans must have all been asleep, judging from the fact that they decided not to take advantage of their considerable range advantage. The 12.8 cm PAK 44 outgunned and outranged every allied armored vehicle by a wide margin. Did the Jagdtigers in this scenario even get one shot off?

By this stage of the war, the US 90mm. gun had ammunition issued (M.304 HVAP) that could penetrate any part of the Jagdtiger's armour, including the front casemate & mantlet, from under 500 metres.

Not true the 90mm can't pen 250 manlet or 150mm 200 equivalent with sloping hull.

Before this battle began I said to myself the Jackson TD Tanks didn't have a chance, but let's see how the A.I. handles it! I was surprised to see the result!

The 90mm. gun mounted on the Jacksons was excellent. An high velocity gun that could go through even a Tiger frontal armour and was mounted on a revolving turret and on a reliable and fast chassis . Those German TD were flanked, were heavy and the gun could not revolve without moving the entire vehicle, and the armour on the flanks was thin. Their gun was a monster but to hit something you need to see it to aim...

The Germans would have placed their Jagtigers to cover the approaches to that ambush. With their 88mm guns, they would have taken out the M36's from 1 km away. There's no way the Germans tank destroyers could not have seen them coming around to flank them and not turned to take them out on both sides. Plus, it's doubtful even the 90mm guns on the M36's could have gotten thru the 100mm armor on the front of those Jagdtigers. But great US propaganda video. Most US tankers reported their shells bouncing off the German Tiger and Panther tanks, unless they got behind them.

Dude, you got so many wrong. Jagdtiger have 12,8cm gun, could destroy almost every allied and soviet tank from 3km. The front armor of the jagdtiger - It had 250 mm armor on the front of the casemate and 150 mm on the glacis plate but only 80mm on the side. M36 90mm gun could actualy pen 100mm of armor in standard tiger from above 1km easly. About defence position - I agree, germans would not set this defence like this to be that easy to flank. In road skirmish this could happened but on the defensive postitions doubtfull. Only by accident.

According to actual range tests, the late 1944 issued 90mm. M.304 HVAP round could penetrate up to 270mm. of RHA @ 0 degrees @ 100 yards, up to 258mm. of RHA @ 30 degrees @ 100 yards and up to 241mm. of RHA @ 60 degrees @ 100 yards. The general issue 90mm. M.82 APHEC shell could penetrate up to 163mm. of RHA @ 0 degrees @ 100 yards, up to 153mm. of RHA @ 30 degrees @ 100 yards and up to 137mm. of RHA @ 60 degrees @ 100 yards.

Here we go again. Historically in this battle, the M36 Jackson took out 1 of the 3 Jagdtigers and then the other 2 fled into the fog of war. My simulation is a but different.

The difference in gun power between M10 and M36 was enormous. The M36 could pass the frontal armour of a Tiger with that 90 mm. The M 10 mounted only the Sherman high velocity 75.

Are you speaking about the Panthers that were camouflaged to look like M-10s? I never read anything about the Germans using captured M-10s only Shermans.
