rotoloader for 150mm main gun. 2011 5 rounds in 30 seconds (6 sec per round)

Great animation but the weight of that would be terrible for the back of the turret, pretty much making turret traverse as slow as a snail. Wouldn't be a problem in a tank destroyer but no one really uses them anymore. This might be a great design for SPGs but for an MBT it would make the turret far too bulky, heavy, and tall. Still great work!
@djuravldc3 жыл бұрын
You have right, but I thought that frontal armor can be good enough counterweight. Or whole turret can be moved froward. This is for balance issue, but then still we have problem of weight, which might need some inventive ways to solve... strogner rotation motor, lighter materials, idk :p

My problem with the mechanism is that it does have a central ramming rod, but apparently nothing that gets the ammunition into the turn table... Having a device for every position would be insane.

It can pe simple telescopic mechanism, but you are right - would he needed for every position. But I think it's cheap. Up side is - redundancy which increases overall reliability :)
@edi9892 Жыл бұрын
@@djuravldc In principle, yes, but this would be an overkill. The central part can have no redundancies and thus, it would make sense to incorporate it there, as it can access all rounds...

@@edi9892 this is only a idea, and video is showing principle. This need some additional solution to go to production. I agree, and I would add some possibility of backup system as well instead of manual loading like in soviet autoloaders.

At first i was questioning the practical side, then i thought on it more, you can have 3 ammo types and a fair bit of ammo, that being said it's going to be very difficult to do, especially if you need to unload the thing, but you can have a 4th in the turret for operating the loading, but that defeats the purpose of an autoloader, but full stock on one ammo you get a veritable machine cannon.

cool idea, only problem is that it takes up a lot of space that can be used for for ammunition. you'd also need some way to pull or push the ammunition into the rotoloader. i guess a third issue is that it might be quite slow at reloading.

This is just a concept, actual loader and performances would depend on used technology. Loading can be done from above or by using loading mechanism in reversed order, like on t-72

Hello. This is fictional autoloader, i wanted to share idea. It is not used in any modern tank but it is inspired by soviet carousel autoloader and Leopard tank ammo storage. It should be fast, safe and provide multiple ready-to-load rounds. It prepares every round while loading another one on different level. Ammo is two-part: shell and charge.

Cool idea, but there are flaws: - There's no mechanism to push the ammunition into the ready rack of the rotorloader - Lots of machinery would be needed and there are many points of failures without redundancies. - So much ammo and machinery at the back would've meant that this thing would have problems with weight distribution. - French style bustle autoloaders can achieve pretty high fire rate already and would still be able to accommodate bigger rounds.
@djuravldcАй бұрын
@@dannyzero692 this is just conceptual, idea is there to think about it. The main problem would be a good mechanism for pushing rounds into the feeding socket, as there are many needed....

But putting crew to sit on the floor and put ammo in back of the turret (put ammo storage outside turret back like here) have beed done by Ukraine I think (nato 120mm rounds) but I would go with whole new turret in this case because of balanse and crew protection.

They should fit a smaller , more simplified version of this on the ZTZ-99A MBT, it has plently of room for a more safe and effecient bustle autoloader, and they could easily get rid of the ammo carousel on the bottom of the type 99, making it likey one of the best MBTs in the world. (Its already up there)

When I see current events in Ukraine, my conclusion is - armor and layout will not save tank, because in 90 percent it is killed with: plane, artillery or portable at systems. So only thing you need is good active protection system. If shell reaches tank from side or above - it's game over. No modern tank can be the best without system like this, even with this autoloader :p ;)

This is very unpractical. You stack 150mm shells up 3 levels, that's half of a meter already. Then plus all the machinery and stowage area, that's easily over one meter tall. It would make the turret exceedingly tall and large.
@djuravldc5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but only back part of turret, front part is lower and very sloped. Also this way all the ammo is in turret, so hull can store some other things, or can be even little bit thinner. But in general this is sum of height: turret(0.6m) + hull(1m) + suspension (0.5m) what brings us at 2.1m which is quiet good. Even if turret is 0.7m it is still the height of t72... I think three rows of ammo is not really problem of this concept, bigger problem would be loading mechanism (pushing ammo parts) - could it be implemented small as I here assumed.
