How would that work? It would still have to have a female connector to connect to a charger - and it's just adding quite a lot of weight (cables are heavy to have enough copper for the high currents) and it would deny boot space. Wireless charging, well that's another thing, ^oo^

@@bernardthedisappointedowl6938 Dude we aren't talking about having additional cables beyond the Type 2 - Type 2 for public slow charging and the 3 Pin mains - Type 2 for "granny" charging. The DC Type 2 socket remains on the car to receive slow AC and rapid DC as normal. In a couple of bags these two coiled cables would still leave plenty of space.

Charging stations providing cables? That's how it works, with any fast charging station. The cables provided with the car are only meant for top-up or destination charging. You would probably use them rarely. Even home charging stations can be equipped with permanent cable (most are, some are socket based, but that's not the best choice).

Yeah the future standard is the Type 2 + DC, CCS connection system, which Tesla have said they're going to move to with the EU release of the Model 3. Going forwards I expect USA to switch to Type 2 from Type 1 for it's higher charging capacity and early adoption by Tesla in USA

I've had an electric car for 18 months (Zoe ZE40), I'm never going back to petrol, the driving experience is too good. The only thing I don't like about the I-Pace is that the range is less than it should be for the battery size and it uses more energy than it's competitors (Tesla) to go the same distance, this also means charging takes longer per mile. On the plus side it looks fabulous and I am sure it is terrific to drive.

Advertised here in CA at 240 miles. I’m getting 210. (I hear this is due to jag wanting the batteries to live longer so they go conservative on the software settings. I’m sure the 8 year battery warranty also has something to do with it). There are many generic fast chargers here from LA to San Francisco so it depends where you live. Also you may not want to fast charge daily because battery life expectancy will drop.

Good car for now and congrats on being the first, but it will undoubtedly be overshadowed in a few months when every other luxury manufacturer releases their "Tesla killer". Had Jaguar made the interior more unique, or if it had better infotainment, or anything genuinely unique besides above-average range and styling then it could stand its own, but I simply don't see this being the new cool must-have EV for much longer. That said, I don't think Audi, Mercedes, BMW or any other major manufacturer has a revolutionary EV on the near-horizon; they all played it very safe and seem far from perfect.
@cameronwood1994
@cameronwood1994 5 жыл бұрын
To me, the fact it looks like a normal car both inside and out is its strong point. I don't want the interior to look unique, I want it to look like a Jaguar inside, and this it does very well. The Tesla Model S looks great from the outside, but I just don't get that huge centre screen. It just looks hideous and it dominates the interior. All of the others look like they're trying to be different because they're electric, and just look awful because of it. I don't like revolutionary car design if am honest, but I am admittedly conservative with my car design choices. I think the I-Pace would look even better if it looked more like the XE, XF and XJ rather than an XE on steroids, but it is a very handsome looking car. But I suppose it'd then be called a Jaguar IE rather than a Jaguar I-Pace... just my thoughts.

Can they not make rechargeable battery which can be kept on charge in car , and then when you run out of charge , you can just replace the battery and continue with the journey. Or having an extra battery in car and can be changed easily , rather then looking for the charging points and the spending so much time recharging the battery 😎
@danielhuffman
@danielhuffman 5 жыл бұрын
AunaliBandali Battery swapping has failed in the past due to cost and concerns about reliability of swapped batteries. Having a second battery is nice in theory except for the problem of energy density. Space is limited and maybe that extra battery could take you 20 miles, but then it’s useless. The solution is fast chargers everywhere.
@AunaliBandali
@AunaliBandali 5 жыл бұрын
Fast charger will take approximately 45 mins . That's a lot of time spent travelling . They should provide an extra battery under the bonnet which should give similar mileage, than it will be reasonably ok spending 45 mins charging
@danielhuffman
@danielhuffman 5 жыл бұрын
AunaliBandali But making the battery bigger will increase that 45 minutes to 90 minutes. The added weight will decrease efficiency and reduce safety, driving dynamics, tire life, etc. The ICE equivalent would be towing a tank of gas behind you. Not to mention the massive price hike involved with enlarged pack. $70k seems like a lot now, but with your larger battery, expect to pay $130k to save yourself every other stop. The real answer is fast chargers. Not the old 50 or 120 kW units, but 350 or 500 kW stations and batteries to support it. Your 45 minutes becomes 7-10 minutes in a lower cost, safer vehicle. And I don’t know many people who wouldn’t want to take a 10 minute break to stretch their legs and use the bathroom every 4-5 hours of driving.

With that option of 10 mins charging time is perfect . But until then I am not opting for any electric car ... I am better off with Petrol at the Moment .

If that hatchback is a rival to the Model X, then there's a great big gap between the two.

@@andrewnorris5415 Nah... Jag is exactly like Model 3 (just a few inches taller and 868 lbs heavier) with bigger trunk and 234 miles of range vs 310 miles Tesla. www.motortrend.com/cars/alfa-romeo/giulia/2019/tesla-model-3-vs-jaguar-i-pace-vs-alfa-romeo-giulia/ Great design but technically speaking it's light years behind Tesla.

A great car by the looks of it, seen a few on the roads now too, much more attractive than a Tesla inside and out and to be fair it is the future, but I would still prefer a petrol V8.

I can certainly understand why there is a certain amount of excitement behind the iPace. But in no way does this compete with the Model X. The Model X is larger in every way, has seven seats, is faster, has longer range and has features like AP that you can't get on the Jag. Perhaps it competes more directly with the smaller Model 3. The iPace is really just a mid sized five-seater hatchback with the bonus of having an air suspension.

They should make the charging cable pull out - like dental floss, then wind back in to the froot/frunk.

Matt Riley the cables will rarely be used. Most public and home chargers have their own cables. The loose ones in the boot will rarely, if ever, be used.

I won't touch an electric anytime soon because the idea of having to cut cut a 800 km. trip in have and wait h-o-u-r-s for the car to fully charge is not a fun thing, specially if you have people plugging their electronic devices. I believe an electric car with at least a 600 km range or a charging time of 10 minutes should be the start of any electric car.

So if you don't mind driving with no heating, steamed up windows, no lights, no radio, etc. it's fine. People may compromise on safety and comfort just to get a few extra miles on their journey. And imagine how filthy that charge cable will be after a few times being dragged across your driveway. You won't want to deal with that in your best clothes.

The radio and lights use no measurable range at all since they run off 12V not 400V The only things that impact EV range are; Battery capacity and level, driving style, heating/cooling - just like a fossil car Infotainment and fans don't draw anything worth mentioning

Technically brilliant. But £25k too expensive and you cannot drive from London to Cornwall without being scared it will need charged. An Audi A6 diesel could do the trip and back one a one tank and cost half as much.

Eventually manufacturers will grow a brain and put the leads on a retraction roller (that probably won't be easy to replace, but should be) so you don't have to fight with the cords every time.
