My 1995 Jaguar Vanden Plas is just like the red one featured in this video without the hub caps. I have the hub caps on mine though. It has now, over 164,000.00 genuine miles (weekend and vacation driver). My 1996 Jaguar Vanden Plas is a British racing Green, with over 320,000.00 genuine miles, (daily driver) for the last 12 years. I can attest the quality and excellent product that came out of the X300 development program. The AJ16 engine (4.0 Litre) can go up to 1,000,000.00 miles along with the 4 Speed ZF Gearbox and difefrential. These cars were the best model ever made with Ford collaboration. It is sad that they were made only between 1994 and 1997. If you have one, preserve it, and drive it. Do not let them stay.

My Turquose lhd. XJR probably among the first superharged off that line. (August 94.) My daily driver for close to 5 years by now. Just short of 290000 km on the clock. Top reliable and still going strong.

@@britishcarfan9601 Actually it´s X306. The X305 is the V12 version. Super fun to drive but quite different from the std X300 though it looks the same. Not only the supercharger but stiffer and lower sport suspension and few more goodies that makes it a totally different beast. Will subscribe and looking forward for more Jaguar content.

I toured the factory when the X300's cars were being made, it was a fascinating process. The wood shop was amazing, they had their own sawmill to make veneers. A mix of high tech and handcraft, they used robots where they were best, and people where that was best. The boxwood inlay on the wood panels had the groove cut by a CNC router, but if was finished by a guy with a cabinet scraper to make it level with the walnut veneer. I'm Canadian at near the end of the assembly line was a stack of boxes with "Made in Canada" on them. I had to ask the tour guide what they were, and they were block heaters for Canadian and other selected markets.

@Craig Talbot Thank you for that insight. I had a 93 4.0 Sovereign (XJ40 the model prioor to this) and I fell in love with thr boxwood inlays. In fact so much, that if any car had wood, but no hand worked boxwood inlays I wouldn't touch it. Someone crashed into her years ago when I was driving at 133mph. I was perfectly safe, but I was sad for quite sometime... So yesterday I bought a ...... 96 Daimler Double Six (yes, the v12 version - woot !)

Before Ford took over, Jaguar's manufacturing and quality control were absolutely deplorable. In fact, Ford ended up canceling a couple of future Jaguar models (the XJ41/42 and XJ90) to concentrate on improving the production lines, especially at Browns Lane. Jaguar certainly got the benefit of Ford's manufacturing expertise, and the X300 was the first car to benefit from it in full--though it was an evolution of the prior XJ40. Meanwhile, I have a 1996 Jaguar XJ12, produced in October 1995. It's finished in British Racing Green over Coffee. It would be awesome if it were in this video, haha.

I dont know if you are happy with your car but may I suggest you peruse the adverts for a Japanese imported series 3 , of which there are now many coming back into the UK with ultra low mileage and of course the looks which the 40 and its subsequent models could not achieve .

The first car featured, in Carnival Red, @ 0:39 with gold growler and Aero wheels must mean SUPER-EARLY X305. But LHD, no stainless secondary door trims (yet?), fluted grille, and no leaper mean I can't figure out the market for this car. 7:45 Amazing, the V12 goes in from the top. Everyone else would have figured out a way to slap the entire front subframe, suspension, and drivetrain in all at once from underneath. 8:44 No CHMSL! WTF?

The V12 was to wide to go between the frame rails and thus, dropped in from above. The six cyl however was from underneeth along with the rest of the drivetrain.

X305 is a V12, this is a 6 cylinder VDP. The fluted grille was US and Canadian market Vanden Plas, since it's a Jaguar. The XJ12 in Canada and USA always had a smooth grille. The leaper was one of the last things put on the cars, so it probably hasn't made it to that part of the assembly line yet.

I thought at the time that although similar to the series 3 .....it wasnt . it was wide of the mark that the series cars had set . Jaguar spent years trying to make each subsequent Jag look like the proper xj6 and 12 and failed . My own series 3 , superb and low mileage may not have the bling and the gadgets of the 40 but in looks , it cannot be beaten and the looks of these poor beasts in the video reminds me of why the real XJ 6 and 12 was motoring perfection . I am not alone in thinking this as many including Clarkson agreee with me .

With propper maintainance, knowledge and care those are top reliable. Specially the X300 lineup. Iv'e had several eightees and ninetees Jags, including V12 as daily drivers and never had any reliability issues. X306 XJR supercharged for close to five years by now and always troublefree and turn key and go. It´s when they are not used or propperly maintained they became unrelaiable.
