Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel, The Dreaded Erroneous Low Fuel Warning. Save on dealer prices. DIY

I recently had the dreaded low fuel warning come up on the dash. Even though I had half a tank of fuel.
Apparently the engine will go into limp mode if left.
Save some money at the dealers and see if this works for you.

Just found this video. Had this happen many times on my XF - but being a Jag I just ignored it and it always corrected itself pretty quickly. Useful to know. If you like strange error messages and odd behaviour get a new F Pace. Mine is positively phsycotic!!!

In the old days if the gauge said empty and we knew we had fuel in the tank we would just carry on and make sure we had enough fuel. These days the bloody thing shuts down. Take care, Jeff

Hi, that's a good question. I'm sorry I'm not sure. The plug and socket that needs to be cleaned on the diesel just sits in the diesel. I would of thought maybe that wasn't a good idea with it sitting in petrol. If the tank has a similar setup as the diesel maybe unplug the battery first. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hi, I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination. Believe me you can do it. Just lift the seat and prop it open, take off the tank cover of and clean the contacts. Please don't pay to have it done. Take care, Jeff

Did you use some chemical to clean the socket, or did you just mechanically wipe it?

Hi Jari, they just sit in the fuel. When I took them apart I think I just used cotton buds. Sometimes the just unplugging of the connector works. Thanks for watching. Take care, Jeff

Have you ever had the water in fuel warning? I can't get rid of it. I've changed fuel filter and still have the problem

Hi Stephen, no I haven't, that's a new one. I would have done the same and change the filter. Is there anyway you can you can see if there are any fault codes to delete. Maybe it doesn't know that you have changed the filter. Perhaps unplug the battery for a minute and see if that clears it. Let me know how you get on. Take care, Jeff

@DiecastPowderCoating I have cleared code and comes back on straight away. Also its a brand new battery. Its got me stumped, I'm thinking the sensor at the bottom of fuel filter. I'm not sure if you can replace this though

Yes it's very strange. Of there is a sensor. Maybe check the wiring to the sensor if you can find it just incase it's a short somewhere.

Hi Graham, it was what I had read before, that if it carries on the car will think it's running out of fuel and put it into limp mode. I may be wrong, but hopefully if you can get that plug sorted it may clear that fault. I hope that you get it sorted. Take care, Jeff

@@grahamwalker9219 Hi Graham, just a cotton bud with a a bit of degreaser should do it. It's sitting in the diesel anyway. More the just unplugging it and plugging it back in helps, but certainly a little bit of cleaning won't be bad. You can test it before putting all the seat back first.
