For anyone who has problems getting the car back into any gear or park after pulling this lever, get under the car and pull the Bowden cable attached to the side of the gearbox down an inch... This sorted the issue for me.

Should i be able to pull my release without having to turn to knob, mine won't lock back fully after putting it back in the down position

thank you for the video. I got my XF 2009 2.7 L changed but now the gear release cable will not activate the gear mode. I suspect the cable in damaged and want to replace it but don't know how to replace. Do you have a video to show me please. I am in UK. Thanks

This is exactly what I'm in fear of in all these news cars that come without a classic hand brake. God forbid if one day you have a real emergency where you have to act in seconds...

Did this to get the car into neutral to move it but when i pressed the lever back down it would not go back into park, i got under the car a manually shifted the lever at the end of the bowden cable on the side of the box, this got me back into D R and N but the shifter wont go back into park it just goes back into N flashing when i try and select park.. Any ideas? The alternator died so im thinking it may be a voltage issue that will be sorted when I change the alternator out.

Hi, open the arm rest, and try pull up one side by big flat screwdriver or plastic removal tool.

@@FixYOURride13 thanks so much. Now it’s in park. It won’t let me put it in drive though after i started the car. It switches between park, reverse and neutral just fine. But won’t let me turn to drive. Any thoughts ?
