I was told that a used BPM needs to be programmed. Is this correct? The mechanic replaced the BPM with a used one. The car worked for a couple of weeks then it stopped again. Any clues? Was the BPM bad?
@chrisn76324 жыл бұрын
I checked the inertia switch very early on and it wasn’t my problem. My car originally came from Chicago and has serious corrosion that required all the body grounds to be dissembled and cleaned. The BPM had signs of water damage and multiple functions controlled by the BPM didn’t work which is reason I replaced it. During the body ground cleaning process I had forgotten to reconnect the biggest body ground from the starter motor. Once I realized my mistake and reconnected the body ground it fired up. I went through many checks that were recommended on Jag Forums before I finally resolved the issue. I’m 99.9% certain my actual issue was a defective BPM but still no start because I’d forgotten to reconnect the body ground. By failing to reconnect the body ground my problem persisted long after it was more than likely fixed. Sorry if my past comments were confusing.

‘97 XJ6L had exactly the same problem that was fixed with a replacement BPM. I wish I had found this video before spending weeks and much reading and help from Jag Forums before it finally fired up with the new BPM. Thanks for posting the video.

Apart from the lacquer peel that seems to be common on any car from about the last 20 years or so with lacquer over base coat paint that one looks to be in very good condition indeed for an X300...

So this turned out to be the ECU?
@chrisn76324 жыл бұрын
Not the ECU which is engine management. The Body Processor Module or BPM which manages a wide variety of electrical functions. Some of my electrics worked and some didn’t. I had a “no crank” situation. Replaced the BPM and the engine cranked and ran. The missing electrical functions returned too.

@@chrisn7632 did you install a brand new or used BPM? i have same issue now with my XJR.
@chrisn76324 жыл бұрын
Unless you can find NOS somewhere (doubtful) you have to buy a used BPM as they haven’t been manufactured for many years and the company no longer exists. There is an ample supply online at different price points. Try to match the numbers on the BPM to the yours. For my car there are two versions and I used the earlier version because I found it for a great price. Very best of luck

C Norman replaced the BPM still no crank. Do you know where is the fuel inertia cut off switch? I have been advise that it might be off. Any other clues you can give me.
