Pity to lose the engine. The jaguar V12 is an excellent engine if not messed around with or poorly maintained.

Its cool and all, however when anything goes wrong the dollars per mile, or even dollars per horsepower aren’t justified. This whole car was incredibly cheap, why? Nobody wanted to rebuild the v12. The car just simply isn’t worth it. This one will now be enjoyed for years to come.

@@Retroformance, more than a few XKE or E-types from 60's and early 70's were scrapped in the 80's with the same line, " The car just simply isn't worth it."

Even as the owner of a V12 XJS, I can understand switching the engine in a case like this. I still would personally prefer to get a salvageable V12 and put some time into rebuilding it better than new (the opportunities out there just keep improving), but that is admittedly an expensive and niche interest. I'd rather see an engine swap like this than have someone put the car behind a barn intending to restore it someday and letting it go to rust over time.

Thanks for the support Troy! The owner has been loving it so far since he took delivery. And thats all that matters!

Basically calling the V12 crappy is just wrong. The issue is the engine management system and the early fuel injection, not the engine itself. You can still buy a astonishing number of brand new parts off the shelf for that thing if it fails mechanically but if it was well maintained and not excessively abused or has 500k miles on the clock, that thing can be really reliable. Same story with my dads XJ12, engine in perfect condition, ECS beyond reasonable repair

Hey Achim, we would love an awesome, powerful, running v12 just as much as the next guy. But poor systems and engineering that supports these engines ruins them for the average guy. An engine is only as good as its weakest link, and if you have to completely redesign the electronics, fuel injection system, and cooling system to keep it running, is it really a good platform? For the weight and actual power out of it, it isnt worth it unless someone really has the v12 bug. This car had an internal issue and blew up, a perfect opportunity to economically swap it and get great power and reliability out of it! We respect and love people dedicated to keeping the v12s going, but it wasn’t in the cards for this car.

This video just shows your lack of experience, respect and knowledge - "no wonder they out of business and made in India" - no they're not and no they're not. You've not heard of landrover/range rover either I'd guess. They're own by a Indian steel company they haven't moved to India. You clearly have no love or even understanding of the original v12 motor, but to say its a bad motor is just plainly wrong. They are very arguable the widest sold and most most reliable v12 on the planet. The design powered cars for 30 years. Wining car of the year more than once. True enough you can't put a standard American shade tree mechanic on it and expect everything to be okay but that says more about the mechanic than the engine. I get that it's cheaper for you to put an American v8 in, availability, parts etx plus you understand them and are comfortable with them. That doesn't mean you have to say the v12 is a bad design just because it's outside your wheelhouse. It's more than possible to get big performance out of it. The sheer number still running in vintage car is testimony to its reliably, you just have to know or be willing to learn what your doing with. It won the le mans 24hr, the le mans championship and the daytona 24hr for gods sake. You're just being ignorant.

That's totally correct, that V12 is a masterpiece !! When you watch the video on here with the 2 designers that worked for Jaguar explaining all the designs of the then new V12, it's just incredible. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2fLaYN8lt9gfJo

Please take no offense to us Jaguar fanatics. The V12 engine was a fantastic racing motor for Jaguar in the 70's and 80's, totally underappreciated. The motor was also comprised mostly of GM parts too (tranny, water pump, etc.), so parts are still not that hard to find. However, one could certainly make the case for putting in an updated motor, as a good Jag mechanic can easily charge well over $250.00 an hour and earn every cent so it gets really, really expensive very quickly for the average car enthusiast. I always see these type of LS engine swaps as something like giving a runway model a double D boob job- somehow it just does not seem right.

Without the V-12, the car has $0 resale value. Cars were never made in India too. Yikes.

Well seeing as the car’s value was 800$ when they picked up the car to do this swap, and has been offered a substantial sum to sell it in its final state, I would argue the resale value has gone up tremendously. And man, if I knew the offense Jag guys would take by one hyperbolized comment, I would have thrown more in there 😂. At the end of the day the owner loves the car and there is one less Jag in the crusher, which is where this one was headed.
