I am enjoying watching you work so much. I have a tip that was passed on to me by an old hand. I was having a lot of trouble in getting the air out of a motorcycle braking system. He made sure that the master cylinder reservoir was topped up & pulled the brake lever on, fastening it back to the handlebar with a zip tie. He told me to leave it like that overnight. The next morning I removed the zip tie. All the air had gone & the brake lever felt really good.

Hey Richard great to speak to you the other day, I know I am sick I keep watching your video's :), You always ask for tips and I am not sure If I have shared this with you before, BUT when putting the bleed nipple in on the calipers its a good Idea to put PTFE tape on the thread, making sure not to block the holes, then when you're bleeding the brakes it's impossible to suck air in around the nipple.

Hi Richard, Great episode again, really enjoying your coverage of the rebuild. Can I pass comment on the back axle piping. The brass ' T 'piece fitted I think is the wrong type, it should be the one "without" the built in flange ie the one with the hole going through the T. This then makes the connections lie flat and makes the pipe from the right hand road wheel follow the contour of the diff housing. This eliminates the pipes crossing. The flex then feeds into the front of the 'T' which will aligne it better with the chassis connection. Cheers Steve.

Superb work as usual. On my 'junk' 150, that I have owned since 1976, I have done similar to this but not on your level,. I found the 'Automec' cunifer brake pipe kit had no faults. I have overhauled the compete original 1957 brake system with new seals and added a reservac tank. I have retained the round pads and FYI the system works remarkably well considering its age. I did add the later hydraulic reservoirs with level switches connected to interior warning light,just in case, for safety sake. I have done similar to the engine but of a Mk10, that I shoe horned. I do remember a conical strainer behind the hydraulic chain tensioner. I am assuming the original 150 does not have this?

Interesting to see the copper fuel line. Was the original Jag line copper? I ask because a good few years ago I though I would upgrade the fuel line on my 65 Mustang to a fit and forget copper line. It was fine until a really hot UK summers day and then the car would just not run as the fuel was vaporising in the line. I changed it back to a heavy grade rubber type line and it was fine. I also agree that upgrading to good disc brakes is the way to go having driven a car with drum brakes in modern traffic.

Your videos are excellent and I really enjoy them for the details you give. Can you please advise your source for the gold plated Dunlop brake calipers. Will it be an authentic Jaguar restoration if it doesn't leak something, typically oil? Would it be wohwhile making a jig to bend those lines around the brake calipers? It would depend on how many jobs come in with the same layout, I suppose.

The owner is going to have problems fitting replacement pads on the front brakes as they'll always have to have them milled down to fit?
@philipberry64773 жыл бұрын
Project looking first class. Your series 1 E coupe is perfection, but the XK-150 coupe has a certain presence. No-one could argue the sensibility of subtle but important front brake upgrade as the 150 is quite a heavy car and modern drivers don’t understand the importance of sufficient following distance. Guess I was luckier fitting the bronze brake pipe kit I got from Guy Broad as it went together very well. Did you not think fitting stainless steel sleeves to the brake callipers and master cylinders was worth it? There is also a bigger bore clutch master cylinder available which makes a big difference in operating the rather recalcitrant Moss gearbox.

Michael It may be that you are using a special type of Cadmium plate but i attach a note regarding possible effects of cadmium so please take care :- Why is Cadmium Plating Banned? Cadmium is a highly toxic cumulative poison and an IARC Group 2A material (probable human carcinogen). Because it leaches easily, it is a frequent environmental contaminant from aircraft and engine washdown - XK150 rebuild is great, kind regards Brian UK
@RichardMichaelOwen3 жыл бұрын
Brian thanks for the note. Our cadmium is done with strict measures in place so the effluent is not leached into the local environment.

why are you using the dunlop brakes they were not very good in the sixties ?
@adamskikijowski91393 жыл бұрын
Later XK's had square pads known as Quick Change. On the original round ones you had to disassemble the caliper to change. I have mentioned that even on original round pads they're not bad and I did always pass the UK rolling road brake MOT test. Used it today quite happily. Even up to late sixties many sports cars still had drums
