I was kinda weirded out by her description, tbh. I was like "Lady, that's YOUR KID you're describing". That being said, Samara must have been quite the seductress in her youth, considering Morinth is the daughter who is most like her.

+Otto von Chesterfield, Esquire She really describe Morinth like a kind of succubus who tempts her victims with sexuality, manipulating them by using their fantasies and darker impulses and then destroy them. During the mission, you really feel like if you were going against some kind of demon instead of a person with a birth defect or even a serial killer. It feels otherwordly in the worse way possible. I think that makes that quest amazing. +Jean Gentry I think that she talks this way because she's kind of detached from what her daughter became. I think in her mind there is two "Morinth": her lost little girl who she cared for and loved very much and this monster who is now someone else, something much darker (a serial killer). She's not describing her daughter really, but the monster she became. I think that she sees her more or less like a sexual predator instead of her daughter. I think that since she became a Justicar, she's kind of estranged from her former life. That's how I'm seeing it anyway.
@jeangentry66567 жыл бұрын
I agree with your comment to Otto, that's a great and very apt description of Mornith. As for your response to me..... I think what you described, the detachment, is what Samara WANTS when it comes to her kids and her former life (Mornith's turn to murder and insanity no doubt pushed her in the arms of the Justicar Code) but in truth, she doesn't have it, with any of her daughters. She shouts at Mornith "DON'T call me that!" When Mornith refers to her as "Mother", and she's deeply saddened when she actually kills her. I don't think her sadness is what a Law Enforcer would feel toward a criminal, but a mother towards a daughter she couldn't save. Let's not forget that she would sooner kill herself than kill her last living child, as the Code would demand of her in ME3. She still deeply cares for her kids, but she has put the Code above all else (with few exceptions).

@@philipped.r.6385 I think diversity is good among characters, but it was obviously forced and we were left with mediocre writing for the character. I will say, that a romance with her is actually very compelling. Perhaps Mass Effect isn't the best place for her story, since all of Shepard's romances are up to the player, but imagine a story where a character like Samara and a character like Shepard are going through that struggle, and seeing it reach its proper ending. I think it's pretty compelling.

@DawnAfternoon2 жыл бұрын
Samara flips the "tell, not show" on it's head so well. What would ordinarily be a bad writing instead enhanced her characterization. You're shown that she will not hesitate on killing Morinth, so you just have a strong emphasis that she values her code more than family. But then ME3 happened and she would rather shoot herself than shoot Falere. That just goes to show how much she love her daughters, yet is mature enough to know when a daughter of her is too far gone to let live.

You know, despite nearly all romances in these games are tied to sex, there could be some cases of just plotonic love, especially with samurai-like justice guardian. Josephine in DAI for example was that way. Also in DAI Iron Bull mentioned, that Qunari dont just tie relations and sex together and love is a matter of tremendous respect first and foremost. So.. it could be.. I think this exchange proves that you can show attraction without sex just fine, if not better.

A couple of things: "Your wishes are my code" Shepherd wants romantic involvement and Samara is in clear violation of her (temporary) code. Shepherd asks later on does the code forbid romantic involvement and Samara says it does not. Only that it she is past that part of her life. Later on she says that she wants to but that the Code she serves is stronger than her feelings for Shepherd. Flings do not interest her as she admits later. But couldn't she have just try to have a relationship and see what happens til her oath is fulfilled? So much tension, so much chasing, hella blue balls I'm sorry Shepherd I tried to get you laid. She's such a bad ass too. Openly challenged 3 armed strangers and confidence for days. A great character and story development moment

It's kinda interesting that they did have a small romance route with Samara, I also find it kinda cool she kept to her code and she wasnt just some lock you could crack with enough tries, you get a very small payout but one that is pretty adorable actually, got my heart racing imagining a relationship with someone like that.

I've never really considered both Samara's and Jack's romance options. But after watching both their romances, they just feel so... natural and understandable; human. Mass Effect 1-3 already impressed me with how convincing all possible paths are that you can take and still suit Shepard, but I'm also impressed how every single potential romance candidate has a fluent buildup that fits both characters and never makes you question if Shepard and the romance option would truly fit.

I love 99% of the writing in ME, but god, Samara's loyalty mission is so fuckin' awkward and poorly written... Bringing up every single thing Morinth likes before she even references it and she doesn't catch on at all? Come on, Bioware, if she's really that much of an 'apex social predator', mentioning even ONE thing by name that she loves but suspects humans aren't into would be enough to break things off, how could you possibly make her this dense..? Not to mention how a lot of the 'Paragon' choices in Samara's story are actually pretty inconsiderate. Do you THINK someone with her history wants you to touch their shoulder like the third time you talk to them (or EVER unless you're super close, really)? Who the fuck wants to be asked, "Are you okay?" after they killed their own daughter before you even leave the room?

Something about Morinth is hilarious to me. She says she is the "genetic destiny of the asari", but ardat-yakshi are sterile. Once all asari are ardat-yakshi like Morinth believes will happen, then the asari are basically already extinct.

Really like Samara. I did not pursue the romantic angle, but she was often on the squad and I used her as my Biotic defender in the ME2 suicide mission. These games are impressive - as a player I actually felt connected to characters like Samara and Mordin after going through so much together. During the final battle in ME3 I contacted Samara on the radio to say a last goodbye When it was all over, one of my first thoughts was to wonder whether she survived or not.

If you played the Shadow Broker DLC and go back and check the computer files on all your crew mates, you can find out that Samara gave up everything the moment she became a Justicar. Home, car, assets and daughters all so she can bring Morinth to justice. All she has left is the gun in her holster and the clothes on her back. Must be a depressing thought of wandering the galaxy for centuries alone.

Imagine going to a restaurant and the booth next to is just one person bringing up a specific topic, the other person going "Woah that's my favorite" before dropping the topic and doing the whole thing over again, only for both of them to spend the rest of the night going "I love power and violence"
I actually found this ironic. The paragon shepard peaks her interest, but she knows what she wants and it's not that. But paragon shep basically keeps pushing even though she is saying no...he just goes renegade lol.

Samara is definitely the best romance choice in the game in my opinion. It's absolutely appalling to me that they ended it the way they did. It would have been really nice if throughout the Citadel DLC party she comes more to terms with her loneliness and past in a crash course with Shepard's culminating in a nice Citadel ending ala the way the rest of them played out. Honestly I'd have been happy just knowing that Samara would be there waiting for you after the end would have been a joy. At least one of the MEHEM mods makes it more of a reality.
