Tarikh Episode 743
Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons of Indian History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Dagshai Jail. Built in 1849 by the British East India Company, it wasn't your average prison. This T-shaped fortress boasted 54 high-security cells, some for solitary confinement, with minimal ventilation and light.
Dagshai earned a notorious reputation. It wasn't just a jail, it was a place of harsh punishments and political imprisonment. Even Mahatma Gandhi's assassin, Nathuram Godse, spent time here. Whispers linger about the "execution wall" where bullets silenced those who defied the British Raj.
Today, Dagshai is a museum, showcasing the harsh realities of prison life and the struggles of those incarcerated. The chilling atmosphere and iron bars bear silent witness to a dark past.
