The same thing happened to me 40 years when I sat with devotees and chanted for the first time.. Just by some identity one is not eligble for liberation , yeah you might have done some pious work in previous life to get a birth in pious family but that doesn't make you liberated, your sincerity to serve Krishna decides you are capable for liberation.
